Cloud Platform Engineering (CPE) | Enterprise Data Platforms

The Cloud Platform Engineering (CPE) organization is responsible for delivering secure, scalable, resilient, and standardized enterprise data platform capabilities across multi-cloud environments.

This role is a platform engineering and operations leadership position (AVP level) focused on:

  • Platform enablement and standardization

  • Cloud infrastructure and data platform operations

  • Governance, risk, and compliance alignment

  • Automation and operational excellence

The position emphasizes run-based ownership, platform lifecycle management, and cross-functional collaboration, and is not a software development role.

Core Responsibilities

1. Platform Engineering & Operations

  • Own end-to-end operational management of enterprise data platforms across Azure and AWS

  • Ensure high availability, resiliency, and performance of cloud-based data platforms

  • Drive standardization of platform configurations, deployment patterns, and operational controls

  • Support platform lifecycle activities: provisioning, onboarding, upgrades, patching, and decommissioning

2. Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Automation

  • Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using Terraform

  • Develop reusable platform modules and templates for consistent deployments

  • Automate operational workflows using:

  • Azure CLI / AWS CLI

  • Bash / PowerShell scripting

  • Python (where applicable)

  • Reduce manual effort by implementing self-service and automated provisioning frameworks

3. CI/CD & Platform Delivery

  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps) for:

  • Infrastructure provisioning

  • Environment promotion

  • Platform configuration management

  • Enable controlled, auditable, and repeatable deployments

  • Ensure segregation of duties and compliance alignment in deployment workflows

4. Governance, Security & Compliance

  • Enforce enterprise-wide security controls and governance frameworks, including:

  • RBAC (Role-Based Access Control)

  • Encryption (at rest and in transit)

  • Key management (Azure Key Vault / AWS KMS)

  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements

  • Participate in audit readiness, evidence collection, and remediation activities

  • Drive secure-by-design platform principles

5. Incident Management & Operational Excellence

  • Provide L2/L3 support for platform incidents and service requests

  • Lead incident triage, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis (RCA)

  • Implement preventive measures and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Establish and maintain SLA/SLO adherence and observability standards

  • Reduce Sev-1 incidents and operational risk through automation and standardization

6. Data Platform & Tooling Support

  • Support and manage enterprise BI and data integration tools, including:

  • Talend

  • Qlik (Compose, Replicate/Attunity)

  • Databricks (optional)

  • Ensure platform stability, scalability, and integration across data ecosystems

  • Enable data platform onboarding for business and engineering teams

7. Cost Optimization & Performance Engineering

  • Monitor and optimize cloud resource utilization and cost

  • Implement cost governance controls and tagging strategies

  • Drive performance tuning and capacity planning

  • Provide insights on cost vs. performance trade-offs

8. Documentation & Platform Enablement

  • Develop and maintain:

  • Runbooks (primary deliverable from CPE)

  • Operational playbooks

  • Architecture and configuration documentation

  • Standardize onboarding guides and platform usage patterns

  • Ensure operational transparency and knowledge sharing across teams

9. Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with:

  • Architecture teams

  • Security & Risk

  • Application and Data Engineering teams

  • Cloud platform providers and vendors

  • Act as a platform SME, enabling adoption across enterprise teams

  • Contribute to platform strategy and roadmap discussions

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in cloud platform engineering / data platform operations

  • Strong hands-on experience with:

  • Microsoft Azure and/or AWS

  • Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)

  • Azure DevOps (CI/CD pipelines)

  • Strong scripting and automation expertise:

  • Bash / PowerShell / Python / REST APIs

  • Solid understanding of:

  • Cloud data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks ecosystems)

  • Networking, security, and cloud architecture patterns

  • Proven experience in:

  • Production support environments (L2/L3 support)

  • Incident management and RCA processes

  • Strong knowledge of:

  • RBAC, IAM, encryption, governance, compliance frameworks

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder engagement skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Financial Services / regulated environments (e.g., FFIEC, SOC2, etc.)

  • Exposure to multi-tenant or shared enterprise platform models

  • Experience supporting SaaS-based data platforms

  • Familiarity with:

  • Snowflake ecosystem

  • Data governance tooling

  • Observability and monitoring frameworks

  • Experience working in customer-facing or consulting roles

  • Awareness of AI/ML-driven automation and platform efficiencies

  • Experience in platform onboarding, enablement, and adoption programs

  • Consistent achievement of SLA/SLO targets for platform uptime and reliability

  • Measurable reduction in:

  • Manual operational tasks

  • Sev-1 and critical incidents

  • Improved platform onboarding time and user adoption

  • Enhanced automation coverage and operational efficiency

  • Demonstrable cloud cost optimization and governance adherence

  • Strong audit outcomes with minimal compliance gaps

Code development is not expected; emphasis is on infrastructure, automation, and operations

CPE delivers runbooks and operational guidance (no application code reviews)
