Job Description

Leidos Civil IT division is focused on innovation and solving complex technical problems spanning infrastructure operations, cybersecurity analytics, and application modernizations. We rely on a team of skilled staff capable of operating across technical domains, embracing challenges, and being adaptable to new technologies and new ideas.

About the Role

The Cloud Infrastructure Engineer supports the operation, maintenance, automation, and continued modernization of AWS and hybrid-cloud infrastructure supporting federal systems. The engineer will work alongside senior infrastructure and security engineers to implement cloud changes, troubleshoot issues, maintain infrastructure-as-code, remediate vulnerabilities, monitor system health, and improve operational processes.

This is a developmental engineering position intended for an individual with strong technical fundamentals who wants to build deeper expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure, automation, networking, and security. The engineer is not expected to arrive as an expert across the AWS platform but should demonstrate technical curiosity, ownership, and the ability to learn unfamiliar technologies.

About the Candidate

We are specifically looking for someone who can:

  • Support AWS infrastructure including EC2, S3, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, Systems Manager, load balancing, DNS, and related services.
  • Implement infrastructure changes using established architecture, procedures, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Maintain and modify Terraform and/or CloudFormation configurations under guidance from senior engineers.
  • Monitor cloud resources and investigate availability, performance, configuration, and security issues.
  • Troubleshoot networking, operating system, application connectivity, permissions, DNS, and cloud-service issues.
  • Support vulnerability remediation, patching, configuration compliance, and security-hardening activities.
  • Assist with cloud migrations, modernization efforts, disaster recovery, and infrastructure lifecycle activities.
  • Develop scripts and automation to reduce repetitive administrative work.
  • Maintain technical documentation, diagrams, procedures, and change records.
  • Participate in incident response and root-cause analysis.
  • Work with senior engineers to learn cloud architecture, security, networking, automation, and operational best practices.
  • Gradually assume ownership of cloud services and technical workstreams as experience develops.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems or relevant field and 1-3 years of practical experience in the field
  • Ability to obtain public trust clearance
  • Ability to independently manage assigned work, document technical activities, communicate issues, and seek assistance when appropriate.
  • Demonstrated self-initiative to build enterprise-like AWS systems and resources that align with well-architected frameworks
  • Understanding of fundamental networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, subnets, and firewalls/security groups, with the ability to apply systematic troubleshooting methods
  • Basic understanding of infrastructure security concepts such as least privilege, vulnerability remediation, system hardening, and security baselines.
  • Hands-on experience building solutions with Cloudformation, Terraform, Python, or other tools

Beneficial Qualifications

  • Cloud related certifications (Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, etc)
  • Exposure to CIS Benchmarks, STIGs, or similar security and compliance frameworks
