The role in detail

As part of Grant Thornton’s IT department, the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for maintaining and improving the organization’s technology environment by ensuring systems run efficiently, securely, and without interruption. This position focuses on managing both cloud-based and on-premise infrastructure, identifying opportunities to enhance performance, and implementing solutions that support growing business demands. The engineer is responsible for diagnosing and resolving technical issues, working closely with colleagues and external partners when needed, and helping drive infrastructure-related initiatives forward. They also stay informed about emerging technologies and apply best practices in areas such as cloud platforms, security, networking, and system administration, while using modern tools and AI-driven solutions to streamline operations and improve overall service quality.

The key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Evaluating expanding or enhanced computer operations; makes recommendations for improvement and upgrading hardware and software to manage workload and system requirements.

  • Monitor system performance and ensure uptime and reliability.

  • Applying knowledge of computer software, hardware, and procedures to solve problems.

  • Collaborating with other employees to research and resolve problems.

  • Arranging service by software or hardware vendors to repair or replace defective products.

  • Developing and communicating department projects and goals.

  • Maintaining knowledge of technology innovations and trends.

  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

To be successful at this role you need the following (hard and soft skills):

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

  • 2-4 years of hands-on experience in IT Operations or a similar technical role

  • Advanced troubleshooting skills on Microsoft environments

  • Working knowledge of cloud architectures and services, with emphasis on Microsoft Azure

  • Basic knowledge of cybersecurity principles, supporting the implementation of security measures and best practices

  • Solid understanding of basic networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS)

  • Hands-on experience with Linux and Windows system administration

  • Familiarity with support and monitoring tools (e.g. Jira, Grafana)

  • Experience with GenAI tools and with the installation and configuration of Microsoft Copilot and AI agents

  • Good understanding of database administration principles (SQL / NoSQL)

Strong Asset:

  • ITIL® Foundation certification or higher/ Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator will be considered a strong plus

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities

  • Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and professionalism

  • Strong work ethic, team spirit, and a high level of accountability

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact confidently with all levels of management
