Job Description

We made history and now we work to transform the future – for our customers, our communities and our families. You'll see your work on the road every day, helping people move freely and pursue their dreams. At Ford, you can build more than vehicles. Come build what matters.

Product Creation and Industrialization (PC&I) brings together Ford’s vehicle, electric, digital and design teams with our global manufacturing system. Working as one end-to-end organization, we turn ideas into high-quality vehicles, software and experiences across gas, hybrid and electric, designed around what customers need.

In this position...

As a Mechanisms Engineer, you’ll use your technical expertise to wholistically drive complex mechanism design problems to completion. You’ll work amongst the team to scope work, plan requirements, identify risks, estimate budgets, and clearly communicate ongoing progress of the sealing system.

You will be working on a small high performing team that will have a high interaction and collaboration quotient to deliver fully integrated EV vehicle sealing systems that achieve aspirational targets associated with cost, weight, efficiency, and exceed operational tolerances required to deliver the ambitious project scope. Engineering trade-offs are minimized by the development of solutions and innovations to minimize settling for an inferior product or solution. This team will be highly technical in nature and will come from engineering and data centric team environments that have had to deliver the holistic end to end engineering life cycle from ideation through design, engineering, test and ensuring efficient industrialization. This environment is not for everyone but will enrich the best talent with the opportunity to perform some of the best work of their careers.

What you'll do...

  • Ownership over the design, development, and release of mechanisms related to closures applications, or similar
  • Lead the investigation, creation, and implementation of new designs to support future products on the Universal Electric Vehicle platform
  • Collaborate directly with the studio team to realize concepts that deliver both the design vision and the engineering function
  • Leverage engineering analyses and simulations to prove out product function & quality, from cradle to grave
  • Iterate concepts & designs rapidly using strong fundamentals in statics, mechanics of materials, dynamics, and mechatronics
  • Develop and build proof-of-concept prototypes to validate the virtual using the physical
  • Own design & technical documentation, including part and assembly drawings, to support sourcing, manufacturing, and service teams
  • Serve as design responsible individual through all design, tooling, testing, and build phases
  • Collaborate with suppliers, vendors, and contractors to support industrialization
  • Scrutinize and optimize project costs, prioritizing design effectiveness and safety, in conjunction with supply chain colleagues
  • Manage bills of material and maintain accurate records.

You'll have...

  • 6+ years of experience in an automotive product development environment
  • Experience with Catia V5/6, 3DX or other similar CAD packages
  • Experience with Confluence and JIRA applications
  • Detailed knowledge of the product development process from design, development, validation and industrialization
  • Knowledge of the materials, processes, and technologies used to deliver electromechanical systems for automotive applications
  • Willingness to explore inventive mechanisms applicable to current & future closures systems
  • Proven experience driving progress on multiple projects across multiple locations and timelines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a high-performing team
  • A system approach with the desire and curiosity to strive for exceptional delivery execution and continuous improvement

Even better, you may have...

  • Ability to develop, generate, and assess kinematic & dynamics models for mechanism creation (Python, MATLAB, etc.)
  • Ability to post-process CAE data (META, Altair Hyperview etc.).
  • Evidence of deploying automotive mechanisms at scale and at quality

You may not check every box, or your experience may look a little different from what we've outlined, but if you think you can bring value to Ford Motor Company, we encourage you to apply!
