Summary: The Closure Technical Lead is responsible for overseeing the production, quality, and operational efficiency of beverage closure (cap) manufacturing and application. This role ensures that manufacturing processes meet company goals, industry regulations, and customer expectations. This position will focus on developing the team, improving processes, and assisting in the proper maintenance and operation of equipment. It also involves testing new resins and additives, supporting Coca-Cola bottler trials, auditing manufacturing performance, and providing technical support to customers regarding capper setup and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
Manufacturing Operations & Production Management
• Oversee closure (cap) production, including injection molding, compression molding, assembly, and quality control.
• Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
• Ensure product quality and consistency.
• Assist with configuring full closure line setups involving multiple pieces of equipment.
• Support equipment installations, training programs, and start-up activities within the plant.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
• Work with the Director of Quality to develop quality control standards to meet industry regulations and customer requirements.
• Ensure compliance with food safety, FDA, and other regulatory requirements.
• Conduct audits of manufacturing processes and capper equipment to identify areas for improvement.
• Work with quality teams to resolve production issues, including diagnosing molding defects, determining root causes, and implementing solutions.
Engineering & Technical Support
• Work with R&D and product development teams to support new closure designs and materials.
• Support Coca-Cola bottler trials with technical expertise and troubleshooting.
• Lead testing of new resins and additives for potential implementation.
• Travel to customer facilities to oversee line trials and qualification testing.
• Work closely with the SEC Quality Director/Manager to resolve capping and closure issues.
• Troubleshoot and provide technical support for customers’ capper equipment, including proper setup and operation of feed systems, orienters, chucks, and other components.
Team Development
• Develop technical expertise within the team to enhance manufacturing capabilities and bottler capper support.
• Provide training and mentorship to support team growth and skills development.
• Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and continuous improvement.
• Keep operations informed of any concerns or issues regarding molding systems and formulate mitigation plans as needed.
Customer & Supplier Relations
• Work with suppliers to ensure material quality, cost control, and supply chain efficiency.
• Collaborate with customers to provide technical support and ensure product specifications are met.
• Assist in resolving customer concerns related to closures and cap performance.
• Comply with all activities related to product safety, legality, regulatory compliance, and quality.

Qualifications
Qualifications &
Experience:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related field.
•
Experience: 10+ years of experience in plastic manufacturing, preferably in closure (cap) production.
• Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of injection molding, compression molding, assembly processes, and capper maintenance.
• Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with food-grade plastics, regulatory compliance, and packaging industry trends.
