Colonial Behavioral Health is seeking qualified clinicians to join our Emergency Services Program within the Crisis Services Department. Clinicians provide crisis assessment, intervention, and stabilization services to individuals experiencing behavioral health emergencies, utilizing sound clinical judgment and evidence-based practices to support recovery and continuity of care.
In Fall 2026, Colonial Behavioral Health will open The Center for Support and Wellness (CSW), a new facility that will co-locate crisis and forensic services, creating a centralized hub for assessment, stabilization, treatment, and support. This innovative environment will enhance collaboration among behavioral health professionals and expand access to timely, compassionate care.
We are currently recruiting for two (2) clinician positions and invite qualified candidates to apply. This is an exciting opportunity to join a dedicated crisis services team and contribute to the launch of a transformational behavioral health facility serving our community.
Examples of duties
Job Responsibilities
- Completes crisis assessments, intervention, supportive counseling, and stabilization services
- Determine appropriate levels of care and coordinate referrals, hospital admissions, and discharge planning
- Utilize recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate provision of services, integrating the Zero Suicide/Suicide Safer Care principles
- Promote positive communication and collaboration among team members and other community stakeholders, including hospital and correctional staff, law enforcement, family members, clinicians, and others
- Serve as the court liaison at civil commitment hearings as needed and communicate recommendations to treatment providers
- Maintain timely, accurate and compliant clinical documentation
- Other duties as assigned

Work Schedule
Proposed Work Schedule (subject to operational and programmatic needs)
- Vacancy 1: Sunday through Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
- Vacancy 2: Wednesday through Saturday, 2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.
**Position may require shifts outside of regular schedule when needed for 24/7, code-mandated coverage.
The posted salary range reflects compensation for QMHP, License-Eligible and Fully Licensed candidates. Starting salary will be commensurate with licensure status, qualifications, and experience
Supplemental information
- Knowledge, skills and abilities in the assessment and intervention to persons experiencing a behavioral health crisis, including voluntary and involuntary hospitalization and community-based supports
- Clinical competence in managing suicidal individuals
- Ability to effectively document assessments and service activity, including health information records and service documentation, reports and correspondence
- A minimum of one (1) year of crisis experience with individuals with serious mental illness and/or substance use disorder required. Two years of experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license/record is required.
- Bachelor's Degree in a human services field required. Master's degree in human services field preferred
- Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) required Valid license from the Virginia Department of Health Professions (LPC, LCSW or LCP); OR Resident in Counseling or Supervisee in Social Work, or eligible to obtain within 30 days of hire preferred
- DBHDS Preadmission Screening Certificate, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire required
