Clinician, Court and Justice
Direct Service - (OPSEU)
Full-Time, Contract (Approximately 1 year)

We believe in a support-first approach for those who come into contact with our justice system as a result of addiction or mental health concerns.

As a Clinician, you’ll work with clients to address the underlying issues that led to contact with the justice system, to provide counselling that builds on their strengths, and helps them make steps towards recovery with an aim to improve their quality of life, reduce harm, and prevent future interactions with the justice system. You’ll also be responsible for attending court and communicating with justice partners regarding progress and to advocate for the best interests of your clients.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING:

• What you'll be making - Starting rate for this role is $30.01 per hour (Level 1 of the Direct Service, Regulated Professional Grid);
  • Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8, $37.26 per hour
• When you'll work - 70 hours biweekly; Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm
• Your pension plan –Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
• What your benefits will be – 9% in lieu of benefits

Assessment, Individualized Planning, and Follow up

• Assess clients’ mental, physical and emotional functional abilities and needs and investigates client’s present resources
• Mental Health Court; diversion assessments, treatment planning and reporting.
• Devise a service plan with the client, establishing goals to meet determined needs
• Provides skill teaching, concrete counselling, and support to clients to assist in goal achievement
• Provide support services to a caseload of individuals with mental health and addictions concerns who are currently involved in criminal justice system
• Establish a working and supportive relationship with clients
• Confidence to provide recommendations in high intensity situations "on the record" to advocate for client rights and needs
• Advocate for client rights as necessary and support self-advocacy.
• Monitor symptomology, medication, and activities of daily living to help improve individuals’ ability to function on a day-to-day basis and within the community
• Provide assistance with financial management, vocational support, occupational support, and discharge planning
• Provide crisis support and crisis prevention planning

WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY:

Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements
Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately 2 weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.

We require the following qualifications:

• RPN, bachelor's or master's degree in Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychology or related field (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e. original degree/diploma or official transcript)
• Currently registered and in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, the College of Nurses of Ontario, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, or the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
• Valid Driver’s licence and access to a vehicle with at least $2 million in liability insurance to occasionally transport clients
• Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
• Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly

We prefer the following qualifications:

• First Aid & CPR, WHMIS Training
• Training in crisis intervention and crisis resolution, including ASIST training program
• Knowledge of Psycho-social Rehabilitation
• Knowledge of Services in Oxford County
• Knowledge of specialized courts including; Community Treatment Court, Drug Treatment Court, Domestic Violence Court
• Extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals used in the treatment of mental illness & experience in monitoring/administration of medication
• Extensive knowledge of the support/treatment services network in Oxford County and of regional services commonly accessed by the Program
• Knowledge of legal system
• Demonstrated experience working from a Recovery Focused Practic
• Experience and detailed knowledge of serious mental illnesses usually gained by several years of working with this populatioN
• Experience in working in a community-based setting with an extensive knowledge of social assistance programs and both generic and specialized local social support networks is essential
• Experience in crisis intervention/management and crisis resolution
• Experience working with individuals with an ABI or Development Disability
• Experience in the treatment of Addictions
• Bilingual both official languages, preferred; préférence sera accordée aux candidats qui sont compétents dans les deux langues officielles du Canada
