Clinical/HC Research Associate - Department of Radiology -(25006419)

The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Radiology is seeking a Clinical/Health Care Research Associate to support the MRI Recharge Facility by providing management and oversight for research studies from beginning to end of project.

This position will perform clinical and healthcare research activities related to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). Oversee scheduling, billing, and setting annual rate for facility. Develop budgets and utilization projections and reports for facility usage. Explore grant opportunities for equipment and research funding. Develop and implement procedures to support staff and users of facility. Coordinate research meetings, workshops, and events. Work with University investigators and coordinators to facilitate new project submissions. Help maintain facility equipment and ensure proper function. Provide oversight and direction for staff, students, and users of the facility.

Position Responsibilities

Research/Clinical Activities

  • Functions as a technical expert in MRI research; Performs clinical/health research activities related to MRI

  • Conducts complex research experiments in human and animal MRI imaging

  • Prepares and participates in monitoring visits; may perform activities such as patient assessments and review of medical history

  • Assures compliance with study protocol

  • Prepares research and grant proposals; Explores grant opportunities for research facility

  • Coordinates research teams and documents for grant submission

  • Maintains SMRT membership to keep current on cutting edge MRI techniques and changes in the field

  • Develops, troubleshoots, and formulates protocols and hypotheses in a specialized field/discipline

  • Maintains research website and online scheduler; Helps maintain information on the facility website to communicate with the outside users as well as document internal procedures

  • Facilitates technologist support and equipment use for research studies

  • Works with University investigators and research coordinators to develop and submit new MRI research projects

Protocol Development and Study Responsibilities

  • Reviews literature in the development of new imaging protocols for human and animal MRI imaging

  • Assists in protocol development and provide input into descriptions of routine MRI research procedures

  • Develops study materials

  • Liaison with external funding agencies related to supporting facility research.

Subject Recruitment and Enrollment

  • Screens, recruits, and obtains informed consent for clinical trials/studies

  • Assists principal investigator to determine subject eligibility

  • Schedules trial related procedures and visits

  • Assist with subject assessments during study participation

Data Collection and Monitoring

  • Investigates and performs critical analysis of current MRI data and MRI literature to advise principal investigators on the proper approach and techniques to achieve optimal research outcomes

  • Monitors and tracks research protocols for data collection

  • Ensures proper archiving of research images, monitor compliance with University, state and federal regulations

  • Assists with determining validity of data obtained.

Regulatory Guidelines and Documents

  • Assists with preparation of manuscripts for publication and/or presentation at national meetings.

  • Develops and performs quality assurance procedures

  • Monitors compliance with contract and grant terms in accordance with University policies and state and federal regulations.

  • Develops, implements, and oversees local program guidelines

  • Tracks and ensures IRB/IACUC compliance for facility users

  • Prepares documents for investigator IRB submission

  • Communicates with University departments to assure compliance and adherence to University, state, and federal policies

  • Collects and maintains regulatory documents from subjects and assist in preparation of required regulatory forms and documentation according to protocol

  • Reports any reportable events to appropriate part

Leadership

  • Adhere to institutional policies and guidelines

  • Provides supervision, oversight and direction for the students, staff and users of the research facility

  • Provides secondary supervision, support, and management of research technologists

  • Develops and organizes training sessions for student users of facility equipment, disseminate training materials.

Financial Responsibility

  • Creates and monitors budgets, establish fiscal controls, prepare fund allocations to comply with internal and sponsor deadlines

  • Oversees and generates monthly billing to facility users

  • Analyzes, monitors, and reports financial data, information and reports

  • Reconciles income and expenditures

  • Assists in budget development and management of resources/supplies for study

  • Contribute to identification of increased cost/inefficient spending and cost containment measures

Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • Completion of a Bachelor's degree or sucessful completion of a two-year or other approved program by Joint Review Committee in Radiologic Technology education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience operating MRI scanners

  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Ability to work independently with self motivation to complete the tasks at hand

  • Must be proficient in computer software applications (Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Demonstrated ability to train and supervise others

  • Demonstrated experience providing positive communication and care to patients or research subjects Comfortable working with large and small animals undergoing MRI imaging

Desired Qualifications

  • Clinical research experience

  • Competency with multiple computing platforms (e.g., PC, Linux, Apple)

  • Ability to troubleshoot equipment failures and implement repairs, install and test equipment, perform routine backups of research systems

  • Familiarity with image processing and analysis
