
Clinical Track Position in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation

The Department of Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is seeking qualified applicants for a 12-month, full-time, renewable clinical term-track position in Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. The objective of this position is to establish and grow an equine sports medicine and rehabilitation program to serve local and regional clients. Deliver rehabilitation services to horses with musculoskeletal injuries and/or horses that require physical conditioning for athletic performance. Supervise and instruct students, interns, and residents assigned to the equine sports medicine and rehabilitation service. Provide didactic lectures and labs in your area of expertise to students within the DVM curriculum. Collaborate and perform farm calls with the equine field service unit to provide lameness evaluations, sports medicine consultations, and rehabilitation services to clients/horses in the equine field service radius. Perform and collaborate in research and scholarly activity in the area of equine sports medicine and rehabilitation.
Iowa State University’s (ISU’s) Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center’s Equine Hospital is one of the state’s premier facilities which includes: An intensive care unit (ICU), isolation facility, general hospitalization wards, multiple examination rooms and a climate controlled performance arena. We routinely work collaboratively with other large and small animal services including: equine surgery, equine theriogenology, farrier, cardiology, dermatology and ophthalmology. Currently, the ISU LVMC is expanding with a new addition for equine rehabilitation which will include an indoor evaluation/treatment room and an underwater treadmill in the adjacent room. Current equipment includes, ultrasound machines, digital radiography, MRI, CT, extracorporeal shockwave, autologous conditioned serum (Prostride) processing, and additional equipment for equine sports medicine and rehabilitation.
The ISU LVMC serves the state of Iowa and adjacent states with through 4 boarded equine internal medicine specialists, 4 equine surgeons, 2 equine theriogenologists, and 3 ambulatory equine clinicians. Faculty collaborate together to provide the best veterinary care possible to the patients and are actively involved in developing new methods for equine treatment and management.
