POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Support Specialist (CSS) is part of the Health Information Management (HIM) department and provides day to day support of clerical/administrative tasks for the Interdisciplinary Teams (IDT). This position will perform necessary tasks in order to support a complete and accurate medical record that is readily available to staff, up to and including transcription services when needed. Will collaborate with other disciplines within the HIM department to ensure that daily tasks are supportive of success in EHR maintenance and supporting optimal participant care administratively. The CSS functions as a liaison between the Rocky Mountain Health Care Services (RMHCS) program and outside facilities to ensure that clerical aspects of care coordination are supported (authorizations, correspondence, etc.).

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Provide transcription services for daily participant meetings
- Is a primary point of contact for hospitals and facilities, to provide information and support as it relates to initial and concurrent authorizations for care
- Enters and updates information in the electronic health record to ensure consistency with documentation
- Scans and indexes health information and correspondence into the electronic health record
- Data retrieval for medical providers, as requested, from participants diagnostic purposes
- Works closely with participants and outside contractors/vendors as it relates to participant needs to include communication and coordination of participant scheduling
- Compile and abstract data from medical records
- Participates in continuing education classes and any required staff and training meetings
- Maintains the confidentiality of all company procedures, results, and information about participants, clients, or families
- Ensures that documentation for new enrollees is available for coding and clinical staff to assign medical history and review for care
- Provides medical records functions for program
- Requests medical records in conjunction with participant stays
- Will maintain authorization performance statistics and report the results as requested
- Must be able to analyze medical record documentation to determine length of stay, status type, and medical records that are associated with related stay
- Supports other HIM department roles in the integrity of health and financial information within the electronic medical record
- Administrative support to assigned team or discipline
- Will assist as needed with QA activities as they arise

Qualifications
- Medical office background required
- 4 years of health care experience with emphasis in geriatrics, acute care experience is a plus
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Broad knowledge base of health care problems of the frail elderly required
- Strong knowledge of electronic medical records and experience with using electronic medical records, knowledge of records forms and formats required
- Skilled in tracking and trending data
- Skilled in identifying problems and recommending solutions
- Skilled in preparing and maintaining records and writing reports, and responding to correspondence
- Skilled at locating specific data in medical records
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with both internal and external customers required
