Provides leadership in the optimal preparation and dosing of medications, including the delivery of patient-specific drug information and individualized dosing recommendations. Assists in the prevention, identification, and reporting of medication errors and adverse drug reactions in accordance with established policies. Fosters collaborative relationships with healthcare professionals, patients, and families, while remaining actively engaged in ongoing professional development and the education of others through appropriate channels.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Reviews, compounds, prepares and/or oversees the compounding of sterile products, preparation and dispensing of pharmaceuticals to patients; makes decisions regarding generic/biosimilar substitution of prescribed pharmaceuticals.
  • Provides outstanding patient care by optimizing medication preparation and resolving medication-related problems.
  • Serve as a clinical resource to healthcare providers and patients, offering expert consultation on drug therapy, indications, contraindications, pharmacokinetics, interactions, and side effects.
  • Support evidence-based prescribing through active collaboration with medical staff and involvement in clinical decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and accrediting body regulations, including USP standards, CMS requirements, and pharmacy-specific policies.
  • Monitor and manage pharmacy inventory to ensure safe and cost-effective medication use, minimizing waste and enhancing formulary adherence.
  • Promote and maintain a culture of safety, accuracy, and accountability across all pharmacy operations and staff activities.
  • Facilitate interdepartmental collaboration to improve transitions of care, medication reconciliation, and patient education.
  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of clinical interventions, adverse events, and quality measures.
  • Precept pharmacy interns and residents, supporting clinical education and workforce development.
  • Actively participate in Pharmacy & Therapeutics (P&T) Committee decisions and support the implementation of formulary changes and medication-use policies.
  • On call responsibilities as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • In-depth understanding of pharmacotherapy and clinical decision-making in a multidisciplinary care environment.
  • Ability to assess medication therapy plans and develop patient-specific recommendations.
  • Strong leadership and coaching skills are needed.
  • Effective in building relationships and collaborating with physicians, nurses, and administrative teams.
  • Proficient in quality improvement methodologies and clinical documentation standards.
  • Skilled in interpreting data to guide clinical and operational strategy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in clinical and educational contexts.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy regulations, accreditation standards, and compliance frameworks (e.g., USP <797>/<800>).

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) required.
  • Current, active, and unrestricted pharmacy license in Tennessee.
  • Oncology experience preferred
  • Sterile products experience preferred

Our physicians utilize the latest in molecular diagnostics and profiling to choose treatments specific to the genetics of your cancer.

Oncology research is the largest area of new drug development. Self -administered medications, those taken by mouth or injected by the patient, comprise approximately 40% of these investigative medications. Tennessee Oncology’s in house pharmacy, Park Pharmacy, stocks oncology and hematology medications not readily available at community retail pharmacies. A URAC accredited Specialty Pharmacy, Park provides insurance and benefits investigation, prior authorization services for insurance coverage, co-pay assistance through manufacturer or foundation programs, extensive medication education, and access to a pharmacist 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
