As aClinicalSpeechPathologist, you will evaluate and treat adultand pediatricpatients with communication and swallowing disordersin an outpatient setting.This population includesstroke patients, those with traumatic brain injuries or Parkinson’s disease and cancer patients. You will perform comprehensive assessments, interpret findings to support medicaldiagnosisand develop individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s functional goals.
In this role, you will provide education and counseling to patients and their families while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team tooptimizeoutcomes. A caregiver in this position worksMonday from 8:00AM – 6:00PM, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30AM – 6:00PM and Friday from 9:30AM – 2:00PM.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform diagnostic speech pathology test procedures and evaluate communication and swallowing function of patients.
Interpret andreporton test results tofacilitatemedical diagnosis.
Provide counseling and education about communication and diagnosis to patients and their families.
Determinetherapeutic plan, including need for therapy, frequency of treatment, focus for intervention,prognosisand duration of therapy.
Select assistive speech devices to improve patient communication.
Perform re-evaluation todetermineprogress after therapy.
Provide observations about hearing and otherbehaviorto helpdeterminethe need for other services.
Maintain records of all services.
Communicate results and recommendations for improving communicative function to referral sources and outside agencies such schools and employers.
Maintain speech pathology equipment and materials.
Assistwith planning, budget, service or project development, fee setting, purchase of new equipment or materials.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Master’s Degree in Speech/Language Pathology
Current Speech-Language Pathology License (SP) from the State Board of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology
Certification of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA)
Completion of a nine-month clinical fellowship year
