Job Description

The Clinical Resource Nurse (CRN) is responsible for providing clinical expertise, support and leadership to the health care team. The Clinical Resource Nurse assumes a leadership role by coordinating resident care within the health care team to ensure quality resident care outcomes, promoting an interdisciplinary resident centered approach to care based on best practice, teaching nursing staff, assisting in infection control functions and other related functions.

Shift and Hours of Work: 1.0 FTE-full-time-days, currently 07:15-15:30
Pay Scale: As per MNU Collective Agreement

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Active registration with the College of Registered Nurse of Manitoba or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Manitoba;
  • Bachelor of Nursing preferred or a combination of education and experience may be considered;
  • Certificate in gerontology an asset;
  • Certificate in Adult Education an asset;
  • At least 3 years, in the last 5 years, relevant work experience in geriatrics or in long term care;
  • Recent experience in coordinating training and professional development for staff; and
  • Recent experience in quality improvement and risk management.

Abilities and Skills:

  • Ability to communicate in both official languages (French and English) is required ;
  • Demonstrated leadership ability;
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communications skills;
  • Ability to prioritize care for an individual resident or a group of residents;
  • Ability to delegate care appropriately and monitor outcomes of delegated care;
  • Ability to respond to a variety of simultaneous demands;
  • Ability to recognize and pursue self-development opportunities;
  • Ability to perform independently and as a member of the health care team;
  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations;
  • Ability to maintain concentration with frequent interruptions;
  • Ability to function in a demanding and stressful environment;
  • Demonstrates effective organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making skills;
  • Ability to implement change;
  • Aptitude for assessment, implementation and evaluation of professional development and quality improvement programs for staff;
  • Ability to promote a collaborative workplace with interdisciplinary teams;
  • Satisfactory employment record required, including attendance; and
  • Current Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable sector and Adult Abuse Registry Check deemed satisfactory by the Employer.

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of current trends in long-term care and geriatrics;
  • Working knowledge of Accreditation and Manitoba Health Standards;
  • Must be fluent in all aspects of MDS/CO;
  • Must be able to work in a computerized work setting with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook;
  • Personal Health Information Act (PHIA), Protection of Persons in Care Act;
  • Mental Health Act, Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS);
  • Principles of Routine Practices (Universal Precautions) and other legislated acts;
  • Roles and responsibilities of members of the health care team; and
  • Principles of delegation.
This position is designated bilingual (French/English). All nurses are hired for the facility. Employees may hold more than one position in different Actionmarguerite facilities, where the sum total of hours does not exceed 1.0 full-time equivalence.
