Job Summary

The Interim Clinical Resource Medical Assistant–Registered (MA-R) is a role focused on supporting the healthcare team in delivering patient care. This position may assist with both direct and indirect patient care tasks. The MA-R’s scope of practice is determined by their training, demonstrated competency, and endorsement by a designated healthcare practitioner, in accordance with Washington State regulations.

This role carries out delegated tasks as authorized through practitioner endorsement and provides both clinical support and clerical assistance to help maintain efficient patient flow.

Essential Functions: These functions are fundamental to the role and must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.

1. Fundamental Procedures

  1. Wrapping items for autoclaving
  2. Procedures for sterilizing equipment and instruments
  3. Disposing of biohazardous materials
  4. Practicing standard precautions
  5. Clinical Procedures
  6. Preparing for and assisting in sterile procedures.
  7. Taking vital signs.
  8. Preparing patients for examination.
  9. Observing and reporting patients’ signs or symptoms.
  10. Specimen Collection
  11. Obtaining specimens for microbiological testing.
  12. Instructing patients in proper technique to collect urine and fecal specimens.
  13. Finger and/or heel stick to collect a blood specimen
  14. Tests waived under the federal clinical laboratory improvement amendments program.
  15. Patient Care
  16. Telephone and in-person screening limited to intake and gathering of information without requiring the exercise of judgment based on clinical knowledge.
  17. Maintaining medical and immunization records. Obtaining vital signs, obtaining and recording patient history.
  18. Preparing and maintaining examination and treatment areas. Sorting, storing, and restocking exam/procedure rooms with supplies.
  19. Preparing patients for and assisting with routine and specialty examinations, procedures, treatments, and minor office surgeries utilizing no more than local anesthetic.
  20. Assists with providing organized patient flow.
  21. Works closely with provider and nursing staff to help facilitate rapid response to patient needs.
  22. Screening and following up on test results as directed by a healthcare practitioner.
  23. Prepares patient referrals.
  24. Assists provider/nursing staff with patient tracking systems. Enters patients into appropriate recall plans.
  25. Administration of eye drops, topical ointments, and vaccines including combination or multidose vaccines.

Non-Essential Functions: These are tasks that are included in the role but are not critical. They may be reassigned or modified without fundamentally changing the job.

  • Run ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Participate in internal committees or special projects.
  • Contribute to internal communications or newsletters.

MA-R Additional Functions:

  • Function independently without direct supervision.
  • Cross-trained to support MA staff across all departments and comfortable working at multiple sites
  • Willing to commute day of, to Chelan and all other clinical sites.
  • Maintains a strong working knowledge of all departments
  • Serves as a positive role model and influencer among peers

Qualifications:

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Certification/Licensure:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR required or must be able to obtain within first 90 days of employment.
  • Must be eligible for Medical Assistant-Registered Licensure.

Experience

  • Background in medical preferred, but not required.

Language Skills:

  • English and Spanish fluency preferred
  • English fluency required

Each year after that employee will accrue 8 hours of PTO each year, on their anniversary date, until they reach a maximum of 208 hours at 10+ years.

Paid Leave may be used immediately for sick leave and after 3 months employment for vacation. Maximum accrual cap of 320 hours; hours in excess of 320 hours will automatically transfer into the employees EIB.

Extended Illness Bank (EIB)

Allows for maximum accrual of 200 hours

PTO hours in excess of 320 will transfer into EIB. Employees are eligible to use EIB hours after at least 3 consecutive scheduled working days of PTO (max 24 hours) which have been used for a personal illness and/or a qualifying event under FMLA or the WA Family Care Act.

Holidays are based on an 8-hour day. Providers will receive a holiday pool of 64 hours as a 1.0 FTE at the beginning of each calendar year. Holiday pool hours must be used by December 31 of each calendar year; unused holiday pool hours will be forfeited. If an employee starts after the calendar year has begun, holiday hours will be prorated based on remaining holidays in the calendar year.

Diversity Days

Available after the first payroll cycle after start date. Diversity days will be prorated based on start date as outlined below:

  • Jan 1- April 30: 3 diversity days (24 hours if 1.0 FTE)
  • May 1 – August 31: 2 diversity days (16 hours if 1.0 FTE)
  • Sept 1 – Dec 31: 1 diversity day (8 hours if 1.0 FTE)

Tuition Reimbursement

For approved courses, the cost of tuition, books, and lab fees may be reimbursed at 75% of the actual costs up to a maximum of:
