We are seeking an experienced Clinical Research Team Lead to oversee clinical research operations across five clinical research sites in the Tampa, FL region. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for a seasoned clinical research professional who enjoys developing people, improving processes, and partnering with clinical teams to drive high-quality study execution and enrollment.
The Team Lead will provide site-level leadership, serving as a resource, mentor, and preceptor for Clinical Research Coordinators and Research Assistants while maintaining an active role in study conduct. This position will provide direct supervision and guidance for up to five research staff and will travel between assigned sites to ensure consistency, quality, and operational excellence across the research program.
The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of clinical research experience, strong knowledge of GCP and regulatory requirements, and demonstrated leadership capabilities. Experience in nephrology, chronic kidney disease (CKD), or vascular access research is highly valued.
What You'll Do
Clinical Research & Study Execution
• Ensure clinical trials are conducted in accordance with Good Clinical Practice (GCP), applicable regulations, protocols, and institutional SOPs.
• Lead patient screening, recruitment, informed consent, enrollment, and follow-up activities.
• Proactively identify potentially eligible patients and collaborate with referring physicians and clinic staff to maximize research opportunities.
• Perform protocol-required procedures, including questionnaires, subject assessments, medication administration/dispensing, and collection and processing of laboratory specimens, as delegated by the Principal Investigator.
• Complete case report forms, patient tracking documentation, and other study records accurately and within required timelines.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of study protocols and data collection instruments to ensure accurate data collection.
• Enter and maintain clean, timely, and accurate study data in accordance with ALCOA principles.
• Report adverse events to the IRB, sponsor, and management in accordance with applicable reporting requirements.
Team Leadership & Development
• Provide day-to-day leadership and guidance to clinical research staff across assigned sites.
• Directly supervise and support up to five Clinical Research Coordinators and/or Research Assistants.
• Onboard, train, precept, and mentor new research team members in accordance with institutional SOPs and guidelines.
• Contribute to the development and delivery of training programs for research staff.
• Coach team members on study execution, documentation, regulatory compliance, patient interactions, and operational best practices.
• Establish clear priorities, goals, milestones, and expectations for the research team and ensure successful follow-through.
Quality & Regulatory Oversight
• Support the site's Quality Assurance program by monitoring adherence to SOPs, protocols, GCP, and regulatory requirements.
• Review and approve source documentation, case report forms, regulatory documentation, and other study records as appropriate.
• Identify compliance or performance gaps and provide or coordinate retraining as needed.
• Monitor research facilities and ensure appropriate temperature monitoring, equipment calibration, secure storage, and handling of confidential study materials.
• Track study progress and site performance and communicate updates, risks, and opportunities to appropriate stakeholders.
Enrollment & Program Growth
• Partner closely with the Central Research and Enrollment teams to meet and exceed referral, consent, and enrollment targets.
• Develop and implement workflows designed to improve recruitment, enrollment, patient retention, and overall study execution.
• Build strong relationships with practice leadership, clinic staff, referring physicians, and other internal stakeholders.
• Educate clinical teams on available research opportunities and develop effective processes for identifying and referring potential research participants.
• Proactively identify operational challenges and implement solutions that support the growth and success of the research program.
What We're Looking For
• 7+ years of clinical research experience with progressive responsibility.
• Demonstrated experience leading, mentoring, coaching, or supervising clinical research staff.
• Strong understanding of clinical research principles, study protocols, GCP, and regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, establish clear goals, and drive projects through successful completion.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to build effective relationships with physicians, practice staff, research teams, and cross-functional partners.
• Willingness and ability to travel between five clinical research sites within the Tampa-area region.
• Ability to work onsite and effectively support multiple research teams and locations.
• Bachelor's degree in a health-related field preferred.
• Medical Assistant (MA) certification preferred.
• GCP and/or ITIA certification preferred.
• ACRP or SOCRA certification preferred.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Experience in CKD, nephrology, vascular access, or related therapeutic areas is a plus.
