Clinical-Research Postdoctoral Fellowship

The Thrive Center at Georgetown University, in partnership with the Department of Psychiatry, is offering a Clinical-Research Postdoctoral Fellowship within the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. This fellowship is designed for postdoctoral trainees seeking advanced training in both applied clinical work and program-focused research. The fellow will support program development and evaluation projects grounded in implementation science and will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to improve the adoption, delivery, and sustainability of evidence-based practices within the child and adolescent psychiatry service in the Department. The fellowship is a two-year position, with continuation into the second year contingent upon satisfactory progress during the first year. The program offers competitive salary and benefits, as well as funds for travel and research support.

The ideal candidate will have experience working in an acute child and adolescent psychiatric care setting (e.g., psychiatric inpatient, partial hospitalization, or intensive outpatient programs), training in evidence-based interventions, a trauma-informed clinical approach, and demonstrated commitment to inclusive, equity-informed practice. Applicants must have completed doctoral training in an American Psychological Association (APA)- or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA)-accredited PhD or PsyD program in clinical, counseling, or school psychology, as well as an APA-accredited internship. All doctoral degree requirements must be completed by the fellowship start date, including successful defense of the dissertation and completion of internship. The fellow’s graduate program must officially verify completion of all degree requirements prior to the start of the fellowship.

Primary Responsibilities

The fellow’s role will include two integrated domains:

1) Research, Program Development, and Evaluation

• Participate in all phases of research, including study design, data collection and analysis, and manuscript preparation
• Contribute to program development and quality improvement initiatives for the Department’s Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs) and related clinical services - Collaborate on multidisciplinary grant writing and development of new research projects - Support research efforts focused on implementation science, intervention development, and health disparities in child and adolescent mental healthcare
• Mentor and teach undergraduate and graduate students as appropriate

2) Clinical Care and Training

• Provide intensive outpatient clinical services with a focus on crisis stabilization and skill based treatment
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, case conferences, and team meetings - Receive advanced clinical training and supervision in child, adolescent, and family mental healthcare, with support toward independent licensure
• Participate in didactics and provide supervision and/or consultation to trainees and mental health clinicians as appropriate
• Opportunity for intensive training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Training Environment

The fellow will work closely with a multidisciplinary team including clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and mental health therapists in a fast-paced academic medical

center setting. Training faculty represent a wide range of expertise and lead federally and foundation-funded research programs in child and family mental health, implementation science, and health services research. This fellowship provides opportunities for:

As of July 2024, the salary range for all Postdoctoral Fellows is $61,008 – 70,000. Years of experience will be a significant contributing factor in the salary decision
