The Department Neurology is a developing specialty within Alfred Health, and recent investment has produced significant growth in this area, particularly with regard to research and clinical trials. Neurology at Alfred Health consists of inpatient units and a range of specialised outpatient clinics.

The Role

The primary responsibility of the Clinical Research Nurse Neurosciences – Level 2 is to assist with the co-ordination and running of various clinical trials and cohort studies being conducted by the Alfred Neurology Department, including headache and pain research trials. The Neurology Clinical Research Coordinator will do this by ensuring optimal patient assessment, recruitment and retention as well as excellent data collection and management in accordance with Good Clinical Research Practice Standards and adherence to clinical trial protocols. The Resesarch Coordinator will also liase with the relevent Principle Investigator and Subinvestigtors, the submission of Health Human Research Ethics Committee Ethics (HREC) and Governance Submissions, budgets and progress reports. The Research Coordinator will also liase as necessary with the CRO Monitors and other relevant staff as required for the studies they are involved in.

  • Maintain an understanding of individual responsibility for patient safety, quality & risk and contribute to organisational quality and safety initiatives
  • Follow organisational safety, quality & risk policies and guidelines
  • Maintain a safe working environment for yourself, your colleagues and members of the public.
  • Escalate concerns regarding safety, quality & risk to appropriate staff member, if unable to rectify yourself.
  • Promote and participate in the evaluation and continuous improvement processes related to stroke research.
  • Comply with principles of Patient Centred Care.
  • Comply with Alfred Health mandatory continuing professional development requirements.
  • Comply with requirement of National Safety & Quality Health Service Standards and other relevant regulatory requirements contained within Good Clinical Practice (GCP)

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Essential

  • Venepuncture and Cannulation
  • Experience in coordinating clinical research and trials within Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines, specifically in neurology.
  • Proven skills in the management of the activities of a multi-disciplinary team who are engaged in clinical research projects to ensure compliance with protocols and overall clinical objectives.
  • Familiarity with the clinical aspects of neurology and relevant sub specialties.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Strong and proven time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to practice nursing as part of the multi-disciplinary health care team.
  • Have good working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualification in health and/or management or working towards same
