The Department
Alfred Cancer Program
The Alfred Cancer Program is responsible for the overall delivery of a comprehensive cancer service which involves a number of clinical areas and units including; Medical Oncology, Clinical Haematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Apheresis, State-wide Haemophilia Service, Radiation Oncology, Integrative Oncology, Palliative Care and the Victorian Melanoma Service. Alfred Cancer delivers a comprehensive suite of services which involves a range of diagnostic services, surgical, radiation, oncology therapies and supportive care.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Psychologist to join our dynamic team at The Alfred Cancer service. We’re looking for a psychologist who thrives in a collaborative team, embraces the full breadth of supportive cancer care and finds deep satisfaction in providing person-centred care.
The P3 Psychologist is a senior clinical role that delivers expert psychological care, psychoeducation and support to patients and families/carers of Alfred cancer patients at all stages of the cancer journey including after diagnosis, during active treatment and post treatment.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work in the Integrative Oncology Unit, an outpatient service established in August 2024, whilst also working closely with the existing cancer psychology service. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in implementing and evaluating programs within the Integrative Oncology Unit, contributing significantly to the development of evidence-based holistic and patient-centred approaches to supportive cancer care.
With Alfred Cancer being an established world leader in cancer care, there is also considerable research and professional development opportunities.Additionally, this position involves key roles within the broader Psychology department providing supervision and mentorship to psychologists and fostering professional growth within the Alfred Cancer team.
The ideal candidate will have well-developed skills and experience in providing evidence-based psychological services to individuals with serious and chronic health conditions, including cancer/oncology services, with demonstrated expertise in interventions such as mindfulness and cognitive-behavioural therapy. This role is perfect for those looking to leverage their skills in a multifaceted environment while shaping innovative interventions and supporting the continued growth and development of a specialist cancer psychology service.
*Experienced P2 Psychologists with hospital experience focused on physical health conditions or chronic disease may be considered.
