Work Schedule:

Full time, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday swing shift (3pm-11pm). Occasional weekends via shared on-call responsibilities.

Work Locations:

This position is based at the 295 Chipeta Building in Research Park, Salt Lake City, UT, and provides clinical research coordination at associate clinical hospital-based sites. Job Summary:

The University of Utah Department of Pediatrics is looking for a highly organized, reliable, and motivated individual to join our team as a Clinical Project Manager. This position provides support for the research infrastructure and functions of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM). The incumbent is responsible to organize, implement, oversee, coordinate, and support technical and administrative details of division clinical research activities, while assisting the Principal Investigator in identifying and accomplishing study objectives. Incumbent maintains compliance to a host of department, university, and governing agency requirements and regulations.

This position is posted at multiple job levels. Each level has distinct qualifications, responsibilities, which will be evaluated during the selection process. Final placement, including the associated pay rate, will be determined based on business needs and budget considerations.

Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

Coordinate all aspects of clinical studies from initiation through delivery. Build and maintain relationships with sponsors, investigators, and research staff. Prepare study-related documentation such as protocol worksheets, procedural manuals, adverse event reports, institutional review board documents, and progress reports. Maintain required records and ensure compliance with protocols, regulatory regulations, and overall clinical objectives. Record adverse event and side effect data and confer with investigators regarding reporting of events to oversight agencies. Utilize project management methodologies, lead cross-functional teams, resolve issues within the clinical study, and ensure that all targets, timelines, budgets, and requirements are met.

Research Coordination:

  1. Oversees compliance to study protocols: manages quality control, completion and submission of study-related documentation; prepares reports for organizations and agencies.
  2. Collaborates with study sponsors and PIs to establish study objectives, procedures, and deadlines for each project. Oversees day-to-day research activities, ensuring that progress is made to achieve study objectives and deadlines while preserving the integrity of scientific research.
  3. Monitors enrollment goals and initiates strategies to promote enrollment and participant compliance. Coordinates and carries out responsibilities related to research participants, including determining subject population availability, developing informed consents and screening materials, screening and recruiting subjects, obtaining informed consent, answering subject inquiries, overseeing study visits, and acting as a liaison between participants and all study-related parties.
  4. Provides study-specific education and training for faculty, fellows, Primary Children’s Hospital clinical and ancillary staff, and students.
  5. Develops and maintains study databases for all research projects, including data collection, query management, establishing and monitoring timeline development, and data quality.
  6. Recognizes, tracks, and reports adverse events and protocol deviations.
  7. Prepares for and coordinates site visits made by sponsors or federal agencies.
  8. Prepares, submits and maintains IRB, FDA, NIH and all other regulatory processes to ensure compliance with good clinical research standards and practices.
  9. Collaborates with division manager to monitor study expenditures, order supplies, assists with budget / funding updates and analysis of appropriate expenditure of funds.
  10. Coordinates and prepares reports for internal and external customers, including division chief and manager, project investigators, university offices, study sponsors and collaborating institutions.
  11. Assists in assessing, planning, designing, budgeting, and initiating future studies, and assists with grant application activities.
  12. Performs other necessary research support functions as assigned by division chief, manager, or project investigators.
  13. Establishes and maintains collaborative community relationships, particularly with Intermountain Healthcare / Primary Children’s Hospital, and the PECARN research network. Travels to required meetings for training and collaboration.
  14. Provides continual didactic education and on-the-job training and feedback to Academic Associate students, providing continual feedback and study updates in order to enhance their learning experience and guarantee the quality of their work.

  2. Demonstrates initiative, enthusiasm, positive attitude, teamwork, integrity and commitment to the research mission of the Division of Pediatric Emergency Medicine by providing assistance with special projects and working as directed and where needed.

Requires basic skill set and proficiency. Conduct work assignments as directed. Closely supervised with little latitude for independent judgment.

This is an Entry-Level position in the General Professional track.
