The Child Health Lead's main responsibilities will be to ensure that quality pediatric health services are being provided at all PIH/MOH supported facilities in Maryland at Primary and secondary levelsS/he will oversee and lead the strategic planning of PIH’s Child health department which includes but not limited to leading medical education programs and mentorship for family medicine and pediatrics residents, Medical Officers and intern Doctors providing direct patient care alongside the Ministry of Health clinical staff at JJ Dossen Hospital and Pleebo Health Center, conduct trainings and educational seminars on pediatrics diseases, mentoring junior specialist pediatricians appointed to Maryland by the MOH and assisting with writing and management of grants related to child and newborn health S/he will be responsible for working in close coordination with the Ministry of Health and Maryland County Health Team, especially accompanying the MOH Specialist Pediatrician as well as PIH’s Monitoring and Evaluation, Community Health, Maternal and Reproductive Health, Research, and Nursing Departments.

EssentialDutiesandResponsibilities:

  • Serve as a clinical program manager in Maryland County, South East Liberia.
  • Hold day-to-day decision-making authority on strategic and operational issues within clinical programs within the county.
  • Provide technical expertise in the areas of program development, management, implementation, and evaluation for clinical improvement projects.
  • Provide direct technical support either with Clinical /Nursing services or public health/ Global Health/administration services depending on the background of the applicant
  • Collaborate with the different Clinical/ Nursing Leads to Implement Quality improvement projects in the different programs
  • Collaborate with the PIH leadership in Operations, Community Health, M&E, finance and the specific Clinical and Nursing leads, project managers and local staff to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate clinical program activities and strategy.
  • Will work in close Collaboration with the Social Protection Officer to support the Social support program
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones, and work with staff to create feasible action plans for each primary health care facility upon completion of baseline assessments.
  • Collaborate with and report to Director of Clinical Services or designee to develop, implement, and evaluate clinical program activities and strategy.
  • Serving as liaison for clinical leads and Policy and partnership department.
  • Representing the Clinical Leads in Grant’s monitoring and evaluation meetings conflicting with their clinical duties.
  • Support the development of program management, development, implementation, and evaluation skill sets of fellow field staff and MOH colleagues.
  • Provide key programmatic insights and expertise in priority clinical areas (COVID-19/Ebola, HIV, malnutrition, child health, NCD, women’s health, TB, surgery) and medical education of Resident Doctors
  • Coordinate activities with other departments in Liberia and Boston, including finance, communications, development, advocacy, international operations as appropriate.
  • Supporting the Clinical Director and the Deputy on writing the Clinical and medical education annual report.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Public Health, Global Health ,Administrationor related field preferred
  • Documented experience in Medical Education field or supporting clinical programs will be an added advantage
  • Extensive experience in Global health, public health, public administration, health care management, or international development required.
  • Documented Medical background will be an added advantage
  • Experience working in Low resource countries with humanitarian international organization is a Plus
  • At least 4-5years of experience developing, managing, implementing, and evaluating clinical /medical education improvement projects in low-resource settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in at least one major priority clinical area (Ebola, HIV, malnutrition, women’s health, TB, eMTCT, NCDs, child health) and medical education highly desirable.
  • Budget development and management experience required.
  • Some level of comfort analyzing, interpreting, and organizing quantitative and qualitative data
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills, especially the ability to plan, organize, and follow through with a variety of constituencies, handle multiple assignments, prioritize workflow and develop work plans, adapt to fluctuating workload, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to transfer skills and knowledge to local coworkers .
  • Experience working in an emergency setting or disaster relief strongly preferred.
  • Ability to live in rural Liberia full-time required.
  • Prior experience working in resource-limited setting required. Experience in Liberia or another PIH site is a plus
  • Ability to collaborate professionally with culturally diverse colleagues and constituencies.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, as well as work cooperatively with a diverse team.
  • Excellent computer skills, including fluency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) programs.
  • A commitment to social justice.
