
The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. All care is provided based on the concepts inherent in the model of care for TCH which promotes an on-going partnership between patients and families and the team of healthcare providers. The care is culturally based and age specific. The RN adheres to American Nursing Association (ANA) code of ethics and to the scope of practice described in the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
Implementation - Teaches childbirth and related educational programs to expectant parents, and/or family members.
1) Delivers class content using appropriate teaching techniques. Adjusts classes content to needs of participants
2) Communicates content in an effective and understandable manner.
3) Provides class materials at the appropriate times.

6) Arranges for needed audio visual equipment.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL:

EDUCATION:
Associates required or bachelor’s preferred from an accredited school in applicable subject matter. BLS certification is required prior to patient contact. Membership in professional organizations is desirable. If RN, BSN is required within five years of hire. Current RNs must obtain a BSN or be actively enrolled in a BSN program by 2020.
YEARS OF EXPERIENCE: None required

LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS:
Required to be certified in at least 1 applicable area of expertise: certified lactation counselor or consultant, certified doula – may have different focuses, certified CBE instructor, certified CPR/BLS instructor, IBCLC, CEA or active RN licensure. If active RN licensure, then required to have at least 1 certification in area of clinical specialty within 2 years of eligibility.
