The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist works under minimal supervision to provide expertise not routinely available in the pharmacy staff. The abilities these individuals have may include a broad background in specific clinical areas (such as hematology/oncology and total parenteral nutrition), or the individual may have expertise in specific pharmacy management areas (such as information systems, drug utilization evaluation, or investigational drugs). The pharmacist may participate in departmental and institutional committees upon request and will be instrumental in developing and implementing clinical pharmacy services in assigned areas.
This position will develop policy and procedures when appropriate. The clinical pharmacist will prioritize work appropriately, accept responsibility for the work area, have good work awareness, assist others when work is completed, and work effectively with team/work groups and others to fulfill the UAMS Mission. They will adopt practices to improve work processes, enhance guest satisfaction, reduce wastes and costs, and participate in ongoing hospital performance assessment and process improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduate of an ACPE-accredited College of Pharmacy with a Doctor of Pharmacy or BS Pharmacy Degree
Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY-1 residency OR at least 3 years of previous clinical experience in hematology/oncology
Certification as a licensed Registered Pharmacist by the State of Arkansas or eligibility for licensure
Preferred Qualifications
PharmD or MS
Completion of an ASHP-accredited PGY2 residency in oncology
Board certification
Five years of experience working in direct patient care
Experience in hematology/oncology
Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
Oversees patient care functions, including maintaining accurate records and refining medication therapies to improve treatment results.
Handles task prioritization, adjusts to shifts in practice, and addresses day-to-day operational challenges. Adhere to pharmacy laws, regulations, and policies.
Provides training and instruction to staff members and pharmacy students.
Participates in initiatives for process enhancement, policy revisions, or research activities.
Other duties as assigned.
