Position: Clinical Pharmacist - Full Time

Compensation

The estimated pay for this position is $75.9478 to $102.0676 The rates shown include a 6% premium pay (base= $-$ plus 6%). This reflects only a portion of the total compensation package for this position. Additional compensation may be available for this role through differentials, incentives, and bonuses. In addition, this position may be eligible for participation and company contributions into the Kern County Employees’ Retirement Plan.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

This classification is distinguished from those of Pharmacist and Supervising Pharmacist in that an incumbent in the position of Clinical Pharmacist by virtue of specialized training, is concerned with complex problems of pharmacologic actions, drug monitoring and the educational implications of health professional training programs.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates the clinical pharmacy applications to patient care; reviews medication utilization in outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Monitors drug therapy prescribed for patients.
  • Makes rounds with physicians and provides consultation to medical staff on drug therapy and drug dosages.
  • Takes medication histories.
  • Conducts discharge and outpatient instruction and consultation regarding drug administration.
  • Assists nursing personnel with drug related problems.
  • Prepares and conducts formal presentations to medical and nursing staff, particularly in basic science fields of physiology, pharmacology and biochemistry.
  • Participates in training programs for pharmacists and other ancillary hospital personnel.
  • Provides consultant services to various medical staff committees; dependent upon area of practice or department assignments, demonstrates clinical knowledge and skill in the care of the newborn, infant, toddler, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient ranging up to 100+ years of age.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards:

Graduation from an accredited school of pharmacy with a Doctoral Degree in pharmacy AND one (1) year of residency or internship in clinical pharmacy

OR

Two (2) years supervised experience in clinical pharmacy activities.

LICENSE: Possession of a current valid license to practice pharmacy in the State of California is required at the time of appointment to this position.

Possession and maintenance of a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card. Appointees not possessing the BLS card must successfully complete appropriate training and qualify for the BLS card within 60 days of employment.

***Applicants must upload a copy of their degree/transcripts verifying the conferral of a Doctoral degree in pharmacy to this application.

Knowledge of pharmaceutical chemistry, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, and current drug therapy; knowledge of current federal and state laws relative to dispensing and use of controlled drugs; ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, pharmacists, and other therapeutic personnel.

Employees must maintain all health requirements designated by Kern Medical;

Depending on assignment incumbents may be required to possess and maintain specific certificates of competency as a condition of employment;

A background check may be required for this classification.

If position responsibilities require driving a personal vehicle, then possession of a current valid California Driver’s License and adherence to the Kern County Hospital Authority Vehicle Use and Driving Standard Policy (ENG-EC-119) is required.

Since our beginning in 1867, Kern Medical has served as an integral part of the community. Our 222-licensed bed acute care teaching hospital and outpatient clinics offer many services unavailable to the rest of the community. These services include:
