Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist to work with our current team to drive excellence in our clinical pharmacy activities. This role is pivotal in ensuring the safe, effective, and cost-efficient use of medications in the largest emergency department in the region. This pharmacist will be responsible for achieving the goals and objectives of the pharmacy department while fostering staff development and maintaining high standards of pharmaceutical practice in the Emergency Department. Work schedule is Day Shift 7 on/ 7 off -7 am to 6pm.

Key Responsibilities

Provide departmental leadership and oversight for all clinical pharmacy activities in the ER

Antimicrobial, anticoagulation, pharmacokinetic and parenteral nutrition consults

Review of Sentri 7 monitoring

Active participation in trauma events, code blue, code stroke, sepsis alerts and other emergent situations

Support staff development to ensure competency standards are met

Stay current with pharmaceutical practices and policies

Collaborate with management to plan, implement, and evaluate new programs and activities

Promote safe and appropriate medication therapy throughout the department

Actively participate in pharmacy residency program precepting and research

Summary: The Clinical Pharmacist shall be responsible for conducting clinical pharmacy services and ensuring that the pharmacy provides optimal clinical services on a daily basis. The Clinical Pharmacist will work with the Manager, Pharmacy to facilitate the development, implementation, and maintenance of systems that promote desirable patient outcomes through the use of safe, cost-effective drug therapies. This position may have additiona duties assigned that are within scope of the role. Education / Experience: Graduate of a school of pharmacy required, PharmD degree preferred (or 2-3 years clinical experience). License / Certification: Active RPH required, Alabama Controlled Substance certification required, BLS required ACLS required, BPS preferred, Additional certifications (PALS, NRP, etc) may be required depending upon area assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Evidence of commitment to continuing education.
  • Ability to accurately perform computer order entry duties. Proficient in needed pharmaceutical calculations and the metric system.
  • Knowledge of aseptic technique.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements: Position requires sitting for 30% of the workday and mobility 70% of the workday.

There is occasional stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching.

There is frequent reaching, use of hands and repetitive action.

There is a continuous need for speaking with clear diction and hearing sensitivity in conversation either by phone or in person.

Continuous visual acuity at close and distant range.

Inside protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Minimal noise levels. Background noise may be low level but distracting.

Much exposure to computer work.

Minimal exposure to hazardous chemicals.
