About the role:

Mater at Home is seeking a motivated Clinical Midwife Consultant/ Clinical Nurse Consultant to join the team! This is a 12-month fixed term opportunity in a full-time capacity, based at our South Brisbane campus.

The CHAMP at Home Clinical Midwife Consultant/Clinical Nurse Consultant provides advanced clinical leadership, specialist consultation, professional practice oversight and care coordination within the CHAMP at Home program.

The role combines direct clinical care with strategic leadership to support clients experiencing current or recent alcohol and other drug (AOD) use, perinatal mental health concerns and other psychosocial risks and vulnerabilities during the postnatal period and early parenting journey. They work collaboratively across multiple internal Mater services and community-based providers to improve outcomes for women, infants and families.

This unique role spans both midwifery and nursing practice, supporting women and families from the immediate postnatal period through to six months following birth. The position draws on both Clinical Midwife Consultant and Clinical Nurse Consultant capabilities to provide specialist clinical leadership across the continuum of care.

Working within a community-based outreach model, the CNC/CMC provides expert clinical leadership, consultation, supervision and escalation support to the CHAMP at Home team, ensuring the delivery of safe, evidence-based, person-centred care. The role contributes to service planning, stakeholder engagement, activity reporting and leads clinical governance, risk management, quality improvement and service innovation initiatives that support program sustainability and growth.

Salary range: $70.58 - $76.63 (RN3) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you’ll be doing:

  • Lead the delivery of safe, evidence-based and client-centred care for complex maternal, infant and psychosocial presentations.
  • Provide expert clinical advice, consultation and escalation support across the CHAMP at Home service.
  • Lead, mentor and develop the CHAMP at Home team through coaching, supervision, education and training.
  • Oversee day-to-day service operations, including workflows, caseloads, risk management and service performance.
  • Drive quality improvement, research and the implementation of evidence-based practices and new models of care.
  • Lead workforce planning, recruitment, capability development and succession planning to support sustainable service growth.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and strengthen referral pathways.
  • Monitor clinical activity, KPIs, funding requirements and service performance, contributing to reporting and business planning.
  • Support clinical governance, compliance, risk management, incident management and community safety requirements.
  • Represent CHAMP at Home across relevant networks, committees and multidisciplinary forums.

About you:

Qualifications

Essential

  • Current registration as a Registered Midwife and Registered Nurse through AHPRA
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical expertise in maternal, infant and community-based care
  • Demonstrated leadership and service development experience within a complex healthcare environment
  • Hold a current Provisional or Open Queensland driver’s licence

Desired

  • Postgraduate qualification relevant to perinatal mental health, alcohol and other drug practice, child and family health.
  • Credentialing or advanced practice qualifications relevant to the role
  • Experience in clinical leadership

Skills, knowledge and experience

  • Demonstrated experience delivering high level clinical care in relevant profession.
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team of professionals.
  • Advanced knowledge of alcohol and other drug use in pregnancy and early parenting.
  • Advanced knowledge of perinatal mental health, infant wellbeing and the impacts of psychosocial complexity on maternal, infant and family outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical and psychosocial risk and facilitate clinical decision making.
  • Strong leadership, communication, consultation and relationship-building skills
  • Significant experience in community-based service delivery and care coordination.
  • Proven ability to analyse and interpret clinical, activity and service data to inform decision‑making, monitor performance and contribute to quality improvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities
