Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Director, the Clinical Nurse Manager independently coordinates all outpatient services for the Department of Head and Neck Surgery. The nurse manager’s responsibilities include direct supervision of all clinical and back-office staff at the Westwood campus: NPs, RNs, LVNs, medical assistants, sterile processing technicians, scribes, and hospital lab technicians at all departmental sites, including developing and coordinating work schedules, taking disciplinary actions when needed, and completing annual performance evaluations. This role includes active participation in budget planning and management, decision about medical and surgical equipment acquisition (and assist with maintaining service contracts), and maintenance of complete and accurate charge documents and charge capture and provide oversight, within EMR (EPIC/CareConnect) while identifying areas of improvement. The Clinical Nurse Manager takes a lead role in performance improvement activities and patient satisfaction initiatives; ensures quality patient care is provided in accordance with UCLA policies and procedures, JCAHO, Title 22, OSHA, and DHS standards; runs weekly and monthly reporting on clinic staffing, productivity metrics, budget adherence, patient volumes, and others and report weekly utilizing Microsoft Office and EMR to Clinical Director. The position also develops and maintains all SOPs/competencies for all the clinical staff in the Department of Head and Neck Surgery.

This position will require occasional (approx. 1x/month) travel to community Head and Neck sites with Clinical Director for site visits.

Salary Range: $128,500 - $298,100 annually


Job Qualifications


Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • Current CA RN License
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association, or American Red Cross
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience in a clinical setting
  • Minimum 5 years nursing experience, including experience in an ambulatory setting
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Forms)
  • Ability to complete a Nursing physical assessment
  • Skill developing a plan of care including setting goals, monitoring and documenting progress.
  • Ability to implement interventions that are pertinent to goals established in the plan of care
  • Ability to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions toward the attainment of established goals and to recognize the need to reassess or reset goal parameters
  • Ability to delegate tasks in a management style that is consistent with promoting leadership and teamwork
  • Knowledge base to provide education to patients, families, and other staff regarding clinical and patient care issues
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of patient care, regulatory requirements, and management
  • Ability to lead. Make sounds judgements related to patient care and to personnel administering that care.
  • Ability to counsel and teach; competent in speaking English clearly. Excellent communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of regulatory requirements and performance improvement.

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree
  • Head and Neck/Otolaryngology experience
  • Experience creating and running reports in health system EMR (Epic/CareConnect)
