Job Description

The Clinical Nurse Manger (CNM) is a direct supervisory leadership role and a key member of the Nursing leadership team. The CNM ensures and delivers high quality, patient-centered care and coordination of all functions in the unit/department during the designated shift. In collaboration with other members of the management team, the CNM directs, monitors, and evaluates nursing care in accordance with established policies/procedures, serves as a resource person for staff, and models a commitment to the organization's vision/mission/values to support an unparalleled patient experience and clinical outcomes that contribute to overall departmental performance. The CNM provides feedback and coaching to staff members, recognizing them for their contributions while fostering a high-performance culture.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures clinical assignments are based on patient care needs and demonstrated staff competencies.
  • Assists with admission and discharge processes to promote efficient patient throughput and high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Participates in the ongoing evaluation of patient care quality in collaboration with members of the management team.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts and other managers to foster teamwork and support improved patient outcomes and service excellence.
  • Supports a patient-first philosophy and participates in service recovery efforts when necessary.
  • Supports organizational engagement initiatives by implementing nursing strategies, including nurse leader rounding, employee rounding, hourly rounding, bedside shift reporting, and other related initiatives.
  • Provides recommendations regarding the interviewing, selection, orientation, and training of new employees.
  • Recommends and implements appropriate actions related to staff development, conflict resolution, compliance with personnel policies, performance evaluations, and disciplinary measures.
  • Assists with staff scheduling and manages staffing resources in accordance with patient care needs and established productivity standards.
  • Supports inventory control processes and assists with the management of supplies and equipment.
  • Collaborates with the medical staff to coordinate and optimize patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrates leadership and initiative in situations where direct supervision is not present or required.
  • Identifies and escalates issues related to policies, procedures, rules, and regulations in a timely and effective manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Associate Degree in Nursing required.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Required Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience required.
  • Two (2) years of clinical nursing experience preferred.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Knowledge of general nursing principles and clinical practice.
  • Knowledge of organizational functions, policies, and regulations.
  • Applicable technical knowledge and skills related to the assigned clinical area.

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Current licensure to practice nursing in Kentucky or West Virginia, based on the employee's legal state of residence.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within six (6) months of hire for Emergency Department, Critical Care, Operating Room, and Specialty Areas/Units.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within six (6) months of hire for Emergency Department, Operating Room, and Pediatric Medical-Surgical units.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and AWHONN Fetal Monitoring certification within six (6) months of hire for Maternal/Child units.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification within six (6) months of hire for Emergency Department personnel.
  • De-Escalation Training within six (6) months of hire for all units.

Preferred Licenses and Certifications

  • Professional Nursing Certification preferred.
