About the role

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced and motivated Registered Nurse to undertake a 4 month relief position as a Clinical Nurse at Mater Private Hospital Mackay for 32 hours per week.

The Clinical Nurse position provides advanced clinical and problem-solving skills, expert planning and coordination skills in the clinical management of clients with complex care needs, ensuring quality standards are met. This role works autonomously within the relevant healthcare team speciality and structure and is pivotal in the planning, managing and delivering of specialist nursing care. The CN provides clinical leadership for professional and clinical practice, education and research. The role supports in management activities including portfolio responsibilities where applicable.

Salary range: $57.48 - $61.45 per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!

What you'll be doing

  • Provide direct high quality patient care applying clinical nursing skills and contemporary knowledge to support optimal care outcomes through care coordination, evaluation, collaboration and communication within scope of professional competence;
  • Supporting the Nurse Unit Manager in implementing strategies to ensure that quality and risk management are integrated into service provision
  • Lead, participate and collaborate with other key stakeholders in the design and implementation of continuous improvement activities and models of care for enhanced service provision.
  • Liaise with other senior nursing roles and multidisciplinary teams to ensure strong communication networks are maintained.
  • Develop and maintain rosters for the approval of the Nurse Unit Manager, or equivalent, as required
  • Identifying clinical and professional development and training needs of the clinical care team and advise and collaborate with appropriate stakeholders;
  • Promote a cooperative work environment and maintain open communication through effective interpersonal skills and appropriate forum

About you

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.
  • Postgraduate tertiary qualifications applicable to healthcare team speciality
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as a Registered Nurse in the applicable healthcare team speciality
  • Competency in the safe administration and management of IV infusions and high-risk medications, including heparin, CADD pumps, arterial lines, and central venous access devices.
  • Strong clinical decision-making, prioritisation and time management skills, with the ability to work autonomously while escalating appropriately when required.
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including supporting, mentoring and guiding junior and less experienced staff within the clinical environment.
  • Commitment to education, professional development and staff capability building through mentorship, training and knowledge sharing.
  • Active participation in quality improvement, patient safety and evidence-based practice initiatives to support excellence in patient care.
  • Excellent communication and multidisciplinary teamwork skills, fostering positive collaboration with patients, families and healthcare teams.

We are the major specialist paediatric hospital in Victoria and our care extends to children from Tasmania, southern New South Wales and other states around Australia and overseas.
