Job Description

The Clinical Nurse C-CVL (CNC-CVL), functions effectively in Magnet Recognized large tertiary academic medical center with level one trauma designation, ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) receiving center designation and comprehensive stroke center accreditation. Demonstrates advanced knowledge in adult cardiovascular nursing and functions in a fast-paced adult cardiovascular lab. Follows the nursing process to perform simple and complex diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiovascular procedures for adult patients with cardiac dysfunction. Scrubs, circulates, and assists physicians, in performing simple and complex diagnostic, interventional, electrophysiology procedures including, but not limited to, cardiac biopsies, right and left heart catheterizations, percutaneous cardiac interventional procedures. Applies discretion and independent judgment to the provision of age-specific and developmentally appropriate quality care for stable and unstable patients. Collaborates in the development of standards of care, patient, family and staff education to address the needs of this specialized patient population. Serves as a role model in patient care delivery methods and consistently demonstrates an advanced level of clinical practice, communication, and documentation. Facilitates the empowerment of the nursing profession and embraces new knowledge, innovations and improvements in practice to enhance the patient experience and clinical outcomes. May be required to participate in on-call rotation based on department business needs. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Two years of experience in critical care, emergency department, cardiovascular lab, or interventional radiology required. Two years of experience in cardiology nursing preferred. External hires into the CN C-CVL position are granted one year to meet CN C criteria outlined in the Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) handbook. The CN C-CVL is eligible to be promoted to the CN D-CVL classification when criteria outlined in the clinical Advancement Program (CAP) handbook and job specifications outline in the CN D-CVL job description are met.

Knowledge and Skills: Able to work in confined spaces. Demonstrates proficient competencies in critical care nursing and cardiovascular lab procedures. Skillfully adapts a variety of clinical settings. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in critical care and cardiovascular lab procedures. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Exhibit professional behavior at all times and works calmly and responds courteously when under pressure. Able to: speak, read and write legibly in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, electronic medical record, electronic event reporting program; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities; relate and communicate positively, effectively and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; lead, supervise, teach and collaborate; accept direction; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; discern temperature variances through touch; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records and written documents necessary to position.

Licensures and Certifications: Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license required. Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications issued by the American Heart Association required. Other certifications as outlined in the department Plan for Providing Care.
