About the Role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Grade 3 Neuropsychologist to join St Vincent's Hospital Melbourne's Health Independence Program (HIP) Cognitive Dementia & Memory Service (CDAMS) – Geriatric Medical Clinic (GMC).

CDAMS-GMC is a specialist outpatient service supporting adults in the community experiencing changes in cognition, memory and daily functioning. Working within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will play a key role in the assessment and diagnosis of individuals presenting with possible dementia and other cognitive disorders. This role requires advanced diagnostic expertise, excellent clinical judgement and the ability to provide high-quality psychoeducation, supportive counselling and management recommendations to clients, families, carers and healthcare professionals. The successful applicant will also bring an understanding of capacity-related issues and experience applying neuropsychological principles to younger adults presenting with acquired brain injury (ABI) or intellectual disability (ID), and their families.

Please note: The CDAMS-GMC clinics operate on Mondays and Thursday mornings, and availability to work on these days is essential.

Classification:
Psychologist Grade 4 Year 1 – Year 4 $108,279.60 - $123,905.60 per annum, pro rata for part time (PL1 – PL4).

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive neuropsychological assessments for clients presenting with cognitive, memory and functional concerns.

• Contribute to the diagnosis and management of dementia and related cognitive disorders.

• Provide psychoeducation, supportive counselling and practical management strategies for clients and carers.

• Deliver expert advice to multidisciplinary colleagues and external service providers.

• Assess and provide guidance regarding capacity-related issues where appropriate.

• Apply neuropsychological expertise to clients with acquired brain injury, intellectual disability and other complex presentations.

• Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver person-centred care.

Your Contribution

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• Current registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

• Endorsement in Clinical Neuropsychology from the Psychology Board of Australia.

• A Master's or Doctoral qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology recognised by the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

• Eligibility to register as a Board-approved student supervisor.

• Extensive knowledge of dementia, memory disorders and early diagnostic assessment.

• Strong understanding of the psychological, behavioural, social and health impacts associated with cognitive decline.

• Highly developed verbal and written communication skills.

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

• Current Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check, or willingness to obtain.

The Cognitive Dementia & Memory Service (CDAMS) – Geriatric Medical Clinic is one of St Vincent's Health Independence Program (HIP) services.

CDAMS-GMC is a specialist diagnostic clinic for people aged 50 years and over who are concerned about memory loss or changes in thinking and cognition.

Our multidisciplinary team includes:

About the Role

The Grade 3 Clinical Neuropsychologist works within a flexible, interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality neuropsychology services across the Health Independence Program (HIP), with a primary focus on the Cognitive Dementia and Memory Service (CDAMS) and Geriatric Medical Clinic (GMC). You will provide comprehensive neuropsychological assessments for clients presenting with cognitive impairment, dementia, acquired brain injury and other neurological conditions, supporting diagnosis, treatment planning and ongoing management. The role also includes providing education and support to clients, families and carers, collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, and contributing to service development and quality improvement initiatives. This position may be required to provide services across HIP sites including Fitzroy, Kew, North Richmond and Fairfield.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality neuropsychological assessment, diagnosis and recommendations for referred clients.
• Provide verbal and written feedback, education and support to clients, families and carers.
• Conduct assessments using evidence-based neuropsychological principles and a hypothesis-driven approach.
• Prepare comprehensive reports addressing diagnosis, functional recommendations, decision-making capacity and fitness to drive where appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders to support coordinated patient care.
• Conduct assessments using interpreters where required and consider cultural, educational and communication factors.
• Provide supervision, mentoring and education to Grade 1 and Grade 2 Neuropsychologists, students and multidisciplinary staff.
• Act as a clinical resource within areas of expertise.
• Participate in service improvement, quality initiatives, audits and research activities.
• Maintain accurate documentation and achieve service activity targets.

About the Health Independence Program

The Health Independence Program (HIP) provides integrated subacute and community-based services across multiple locations, supporting patients as they transition between hospital and community care. The program aims to improve patient outcomes through coordinated, person-centred care while reducing fragmentation across services.

Essential Qualifications

• Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) as a Psychologist.
• Endorsement in Clinical Neuropsychology with the Psychology Board of Australia.
• Master's or Doctorate qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology recognised by the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
• Board-approved supervisor status, or willingness to obtain this within six months of commencement.

Essential Experience and Skills

• Minimum five years' postgraduate clinical experience in neuropsychology (excluding postgraduate training placements).
• Extensive experience working with older adults, dementia and memory disorders.
• Experience assessing younger adults with acquired brain injury (ABI) and intellectual disability.
• Advanced knowledge of contemporary neuropsychological practice.
• Demonstrated experience providing neuropsychological assessment feedback and psychoeducation to clients, families and carers.
• Experience assessing decision-making capacity.
• Highly developed communication, interpersonal, negotiation and collaboration skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and effectively within interdisciplinary teams.
• Experience supervising staff and students and delivering education to multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to continuous quality improvement and evidence-based practice.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and patient management systems.
