Job Description

Plainfield & West Indianapolis | Hybrid | Full-Time | Salaried

No on-call | Small caseload | Flexible schedule | Leadership mentorship

We're not looking for someone to inherit an old program.

We're building a new one.

Volunteers of America Ohio & Indiana is creating an outpatient behavioral health program centered on exceptional clinical care, not impossible productivity expectations. We believe therapists do their best work when they have the time to think, collaborate, grow, and still have a life outside of work.

If you love being a therapist but you're ready to grow as a leader, this role was designed for you.

You don't need years of management experience. You just need to be an outstanding clinician who wants to help shape a team, mentor other therapists, and build something meaningful from the ground up.

What this role looks like

You'll spend approximately two days each week onsite between our new Plainfield clinic and our West Indianapolis location, with the remaining time working remotely.

You'll maintain a small therapy caseload while serving as the Clinical Lead for a team of fewer than five therapists. An Operations Coordinator will partner with you to manage the operational side of the program, allowing you to focus on clinical excellence, supporting your team, and improving client care.

You'll be the person therapists turn to for guidance on challenging cases, documentation, evidence-based practice, and professional growth.

This is a leadership role, but it's also a clinician role. You'll never become the manager who forgot what it's like to sit across from a client.

Why therapists choose this role

  • Build an outpatient program with heart from the ground up
  • Hybrid work schedule
  • Choose a traditional five-day workweek or four 10-hour days
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • 11 paid holidays with clinic closures
  • Salaried position with flexibility and autonomy
  • Small team where your leadership truly matters
  • Leadership mentorship if you're stepping into your first leadership role
  • A culture that values quality over quotas
  • Real work-life balance. We expect you to have a life outside of work.

We believe therapists deserve careers that are sustainable. We care about outcomes, relationships, and exceptional care, not packing as many appointments into a day as possible.

What you'll do

  • Maintain a manageable outpatient therapy caseload
  • Lead, mentor, and support a small outpatient therapy team
  • Consult on complex clinical cases and documentation
  • Promote evidence-based practice and high-quality treatment planning
  • Help onboard and develop new therapists and interns
  • Partner with leadership to build and continuously improve the outpatient program
  • Collaborate with medical providers and interdisciplinary teams to deliver exceptional care
  • Help create the kind of outpatient program you've always wanted to work in

What we're looking for

  • Active, unrestricted independent clinical license in Indiana (LCSW, LMHC, or equivalent)
  • At least two years of outpatient behavioral health experience
  • Passion for both clinical work and leadership
  • Strong clinical judgment and the confidence to work independently
  • Excitement about building something new

Leadership experience is welcomed, but it isn't required. If you're an exceptional clinician who's ready for the next step, we'll invest in helping you become the leader you want to be.

The bottom line

If you're looking for another job where your value is measured by productivity reports, this probably isn't the place for you.

If you're looking for the opportunity to help build something different, continue doing the clinical work you love, develop as a leader, and still have time for your family, friends, hobbies, and life outside of work, we'd love to meet you.

This may be a great fit if you are:

  • A strong outpatient therapist ready for a leadership role
  • A clinician who enjoys mentoring, case consultation, and documentation support
  • Someone who wants leadership without leaving clinical work behind
  • A builder who enjoys creating structure, improving care, and developing a team
  • Looking for leadership growth without unrealistic productivity demands

Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted independent clinical license in Indiana (LCSW, LMHC, or equivalent)
  • At least two years of outpatient behavioral health experience
  • Passion for both clinical work and leadership
  • Strong clinical judgment and the confidence to work independently
  • Excitement about building something new

Salary Range

$75,000.00- $85,000.00
