An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced Optometrist to step into a Clinical & Commercial Lead position within a growing and forward-thinking optical independent chain.
This is a key leadership role focused on supporting Optometrists across clinical governance, NHS compliance, commercial performance, and professional development, ensuring high clinical standards are maintained while driving business success.
Alongside this role there will be 2 days of testing at a local independent practice in Jarrow.
The successful candidate will act as a key point of contact for clinical guidance across the organisation, supporting colleagues with day-to-day clinical queries, governance matters, and professional development.
Key responsibilities include:
• Providing clinical leadership and day-to-day support to Optometrists
• Supporting the implementation of new clinical technologies and equipment
• Overseeing clinical governance protocols and NHS compliance
• Investigating clinical complaints, incidents, and governance concerns
• Conducting clinical record reviews and audits
• Leading probation reviews and biannual appraisals
• Delivering clinical training and coordinating CPD support
• Supporting commercial performance through coaching and development
• Monitoring key performance indicators and identifying opportunities for improvement
• Collaborating with practice managers to improve communication and handover quality
• Managing NHS audits, inspections, and follow-up action plans
• GOC registered Optometrist
• Strong clinical knowledge and governance awareness
• Previous leadership, mentoring, or coaching experience
• Strong understanding of NHS pathways and compliance processes
• Commercially aware within an optical retail environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Highly organised with strong problem-solving ability
• Passionate about colleague development and clinical excellence
