The Position
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for monitoring, performing, and supervising manual and automated clinical laboratory testing procedures by enzyme immunoassay, immunohematology, nucleic acid, and molecular methods to ensure the safety of all organs and tissues for transplantation. The Laboratory Supervisor functions independently and in a team setting to maintain operational efficiency of the clinical laboratory and meet or exceed departmental goals. The Laboratory Supervisor serves as a technical resource and subject matter for laboratory staff, provides administrative/leadership of laboratory employees and assists the Director of Laboratory Services and the Laboratory Medical Director in monitoring shift workflow and process improvement.
What You’ll Do
  • Provides day-to-day supervision for assigned staff, assists Director in the selection, training, and development of team members to retain a motivated, engaged, and professional workforce.
  • Oversight for clinical laboratory operations team to include developing schedules, assigning and monitoring work, gathering resources, implementing productivity standards, resolving operational problems and implementing new procedures.
  • Communicates job responsibilities and performance expectations to assure mutual understanding of desired results.
  • Support annual performance evaluation goals and behaviors.
  • Performs and releases infectious disease testing, histocompatibility testing, and ABO/Rh typing including but not limited to the following methods- CMIA, qPCR, Nucleic Acid Testing
  • Performs donor management testing to support Donor Care Unit (DCU) operations, including but not limited to the following methods: Arterial Blood Gasses, Chemistries, Urinalysis, Hematology, Coagulation
  • Updates procedures and communicates the changes and ensures that staff have up-to-date skills and knowledge to clarify and exceed processor needs/requirements.
  • Works collaboratively with the Chief Medical Officer, Laboratory Medical Director, Donor Services, Eye Bank, Tissue Work System, Organ Work System, and Quality to ensure that organ, tissue, and eye donation process proceeds smoothly and provides optimum outcomes for processors and/or recipients.
  • Serves as technical expert to laboratory staff, provide supervision, guidance, and leadership to laboratory staff to support the Laboratory Director and management
  • Serves as CLIA General Supervisor in absence of Laboratory Director and Management
  • Manages laboratory functions specific to designated shift and/or section
  • Identifies and initiates process development action plans to ensure commitment to continuous quality improvement.
    Schedule
    This role will work five 7.5 hour shifts Monday through Friday with one weekend shift per month.
    What You’ll Bring
      • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in chemical, physical, biological science, medical technology, or equivalent education with 5 years clinical laboratory experience, with 2 years of leadership experience
      • MLS (ASCP) / MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification and HLA/histocompatibility experience preferred
      • Ability to understand and perform complex procedures and techniques and work with complex instrumentation.
      • Skills required for proper specimen and reagent handling, labeling, processing, preparation, transportation and storage necessary.
      • Ability to correctly interpret test results, to include identification and correction of discrepancies
      • Must be knowledgeable of regulations and comply with them.
      • Ability to provide excellent customer service internally and externally.
