Under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, the primary duties are to coordinate and supervise all activities of the section in the Clinical Laboratory. This includes all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical processes. In order to fulfill this requirement, the incumbent is required to have an academic background, practical experience, and teaching ability in medical technology. Management skills such as planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the work of others is required. It is required that each employee consistently and continuously, anticipate, identify, and respond to customer requirements within the context of the mission of the Medical Center and the Clinical Laboratories
The following are required:
Candidate must have a California State CLS License. Must have four years of experience as a CLS. Knowledge of Clinical Lab test names and their abbreviated forms. Demonstrate working knowledge of medical terminology to include body functions and their systems. Knowledge of infection control procedures. Ability to understand complex technical information; and to apply, retain, and add to that information which is subject to frequent changes. Ability to work rapidly and accurately with attention to detail. Ability to recognize the need to assist and to establish cooperative working relationships with the UCLA Health Systems staff. Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments. Skill in reading and writing English to understand technical protocols/procedures and to write brief, accurate patient data. Must have skill in performing quality control, perform phlebotomy on all age groups, able to perform pH testing on Urine and any other technical testing pertaining to Support Services. Skill in using computers and printers. Must pass the Ishihara Color Vision exam, i.e. visual acuity including color differentiation
