The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs various chemical, microscopic, microbiological and hematological tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Records laboratory test data, patient and quality control information. Is actively involved in quality control procedures, review and corrective action and maintains care of expensive laboratory equipment and instruments and judicious use of materials. Assists in training new lab personnel, externs and students and carefully handles infectious material to protect all laboratory personnel. Utilizes knowledge of human physiology and science to evaluate test results for accuracy.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
Current State of California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License required.
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or related field required.
Skills:
Ability to work well with other people in times of medical emergencies and in a fast-paced, heavy workload environment; form perception required to see detail of specimens under microscopic study.
Color discrimination required to stain slides and to distinguish various shades and colors of specimens; near-visual acuity required to read detailed instructions and to examine specimens; finger and manual dexterity required to handle specimens and small pieces of laboratory equipment.
