The Clinical Engineering Technician plays a vital role in the safe and effective operation of medical equipment throughout the healthcare system. This position is responsible for the inspection, preventive maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of a broad range of biomedical, electronic, and electromechanical devices used in patient diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring.
The technician ensures that all clinical equipment meets manufacturer specifications, regulatory requirements, and hospital safety standards, while minimizing equipment downtime and supporting uninterrupted patient care. Working closely with clinical staff, nursing, and other departments, the Clinical Engineering Technician contributes directly to patient safety and the overall efficiency of healthcare delivery by maintaining high standards of equipment reliability and performance.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associate’s degree in biomedical Instrumentation Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Biomedical Engineering Technology Electronics, Information Technology or related field or completion of U.S. military biomedical equipment technology program and 1 year of experience in biomed, electronic repairs, IT or related fields; hospital experience preferred

HS Diploma and 3 years of experience in biomed, electronic repairs, IT or related fields; hospital experience preferred

Responsibilities:
Performs repairs on all facets of medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic equipment used in the treatment of patients at UAMS, its clinics, and health education centers, working with minimal supervision on even the most sophisticated devices.
Conducts scheduled preventive maintenance (PM) and electrical safety inspections on all medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic equipment, completing PMs and work orders on time as scheduled.
Performs software and networking-related updates and repairs on clinical equipment with minimal supervision required for advanced systems.
Provides clinical support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users of medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic equipment.
Delivers in-service training to clinical staff and hands-on training to Biomedical Instrumentation Technology students on the proper use and maintenance of medical equipment.
Initiates purchases for parts and materials required to complete repairs and preventive maintenance activities.
Performs incident investigations related to safety violations or failures involving risk-classified equipment.
Conducts initial inspections, acceptance testing, and performance verification on all new, rental, and loaned medical equipment entering UAMS facilities.
May perform other duties as assigned.
