minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs)

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit. In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations. Practices within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of practice for registered nurses and midwives, Code of Ethics and the established vision and values of the organization. The incumbent provides clinical education services including individual and group learning assessments, developing, implementing and evaluating clinical education programs and resources using specialized theory and knowledge of specialized client groups and rehabilitation nursing care as well as teaching and learning principles and processes. Consults, confers, and collaborates with Professional Practice Leader, Nursing, Patient Services Manager, other Clinical Educators and interdisciplinary team members in the promotion of continuous quality improvement, resolution of clinical education issues, and in coordinating activities required for progressive educational and clinical practice programs; takes corrective action with respect to individual and group learning needs. QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).Three years’ recent, related nursing experience relevant to the care of designated client group including one year's related teaching experience and/or group facilitation or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Knowledge & AbilitiesBroad knowledge of nursing science theory, and practice within a client/family centred care model.Comprehensive knowledge of BCCNM standards for nursing practice.Comprehensive knowledge of clinical rehabilitation nursing and practical nursing practice related to treatment and care of designated client group.Broad knowledge of hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care.Broad knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care.Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, facilitate and lead.Demonstrated ability to develop educational programs and material.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, physicians, other health care staff and clients and their families, either one-on-one and in groups.Demonstrated ability to function as an effective team member, leader, and facilitator.Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.Demonstrated ability to promote a creative learning environment.Demonstrated ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.Demonstrated ability to provide effective consultation.Demonstrated ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, organize, and set priorities.Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.Skill in the use of equipment and in techniques appropriate to rehabilitation nursing practice to designated client group.Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.Demonstrated ability to function effectively and efficiently in emergency situations and guide others in order to deliver quality client care.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.Broad knowledge of research methodology and processes.Basic computer literacy to operate word processing and email software, and design teaching materials.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
