minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs)

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is proud to be part of the provincial implementation of minimum Nurse to Patient Ratios (mNPRs), an initiative aimed at enhancing nursing practice and strengthening quality of care across the health system. mNPRs set the minimum number of nurses providing care to patients on a given unit. In British Columbia, mNPRs are developed in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) and health organizations. Working within the context of a client and family centred care model and in accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards of Professional Practice and Code of Ethics for registered nurses, the Clinical Educator provides clinical education within a designated clinical program using specialized theory and knowledge as well as teaching and learning principles and processes. Consults, confers and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team members, clinical educators, Clinical Nurse Specialists and the Program Manager in the promotion of continuous quality improvement related to the resolution of clinical issues, educational programming and in the coordination of activities required for progressive clinical learning. Takes corrective action with respect to individual and group learning needs. Participates in strategic planning as required. Assists in achieving interdisciplinary team goals. Acts as a clinical resource for nurses and other health care providers in the community using consultation, in-services and presentations using specialized knowledge of theory and skills. QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).Three (3) years’ recent related community health nursing practice with clients with complex health and social concerns, including mental health substance use and/or addictions issues, related teaching experience with a demonstrated knowledge and skills in adult learning and adult education principals or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required.Knowledge, Skills & AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of community nursing theory and practice with a population health approach.Comprehensive knowledge of the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) Standards for Nursing Practice.Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based nursing practice related to Community Health and Health education.Broad knowledge of adult HIV and other risk population issues.Comprehensive knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in client care.Broad knowledge of research process and methodology.Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Demonstrated ability to develop and present educational programs and materials.Demonstrated ability to communicate with, and deal effectively with, co-workers, physicians, other health care staff, clients and their families, and outside agencies.Demonstrated ability to promote a supportive, creative learning environment and engage in continuous quality improvement.Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.Demonstrated ability to deal with and/or guide others in resolution of conflict issues.Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to Community Health.Demonstrated skill in techniques appropriate to Health Education.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.Basic computer literacy to operate a computerized client care information system.Demonstrated ability to access computerized multi-media resources for education.Demonstrated ability to organize, analyze and problem solve.Ability to operate related equipment.

Preference for candidates with certified practice and experience.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
