The role

The Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialist ensures the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of clinical documentation to support correct coding, quality reporting, and appropriate reimbursement. This role collaborates closely with physicians, coding teams, and clinical staff to improve documentation practices and maintain compliance with ICD-10 guidelines and DRG-based payment systems in an acute care hospital setting.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Review and analyze inpatient medical records to ensure clinical documentation supports accurate coding and severity of illness.
  • Identify documentation gaps and provide clear, evidence-based clarification queries to providers.
  • Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to improve documentation quality and specificity.
  • Ensure compliance with ICD-10-CM/PCS coding standards and hospital reimbursement methodologies.
  • Support accurate DRG assignment through documentation optimization.
  • Educate clinical staff on documentation best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives related to clinical documentation integrity.

What we're looking for:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
  • Minimum 3 years of Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) experience in an acute care setting (Med-Surg, ICU, ER, or PACU).
  • At least 3 years of hospital bedside clinical experience.
  • Certified Documentation Integrity Specialist (CCDS) and/or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner (CDIP) required.
  • Coding certification (CCS, CPC, or CCS-P) strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines and DRG reimbursement systems.
  • Strong clinical judgment, analytical skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills for provider engagement and documentation queries.
  • Must be able to start ASAP
