Clinical Director

Reports To: Medical Director
Location: Maitama, Abuja
Employment Type: Full-Time (On-Site)
Experience Level: Minimum of 10 Years
Salary Budget: ₦3,000,000 – ₦3,500,000 (Monthly Gross)

The Clinical Director provides strategic and operational leadership for all clinical services within the hospital. Working closely with the Medical Director, the role ensures the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.

This position combines clinical expertise with administrative leadership, driving clinical governance, operational efficiency, and continuous quality improvement. The Clinical Director plays a critical role in aligning clinical operations with the hospital's overall strategic, financial, and growth objectives.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Leadership & Patient Care


  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to physicians, nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists, and other clinical staff.

  • Oversee the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care services.

  • Lead and implement quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.

  • Coordinate and manage all clinical programs and patient care activities.

  • Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and the healthcare team to ensure continuity and satisfaction of care.

  • Uphold excellent patient experience standards and professional conduct across all touchpoints.

2. Clinical Governance & Compliance


  • Lead the hospital's clinical governance framework and ensure adherence to best practices.

  • Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and professional healthcare standards.

  • Oversee accurate and timely clinical documentation, medical records, and reporting systems.

  • Monitor compliance with NHIS guidelines, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements.

  • Review clinical documentation and physician activities to ensure accurate coding, billing, and reimbursement.

3. Operational & Administrative Management


  • Support the Medical Director in day-to-day clinical and hospital operations.

  • Lead multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical performance reviews.

  • Collaborate with pharmacy, laboratory, and other unit heads to optimize service delivery.

  • Develop and implement clinical and operational strategies aligned with business objectives.

  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and optimal workforce planning across clinical departments.

4. Human Resource Management & Capacity Development


  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of clinical staff.

  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide structured feedback and coaching.

  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and clinical excellence.

  • Mentor and develop future clinical leaders within the organization.

5. Financial & Resource Management


  • Contribute to budgeting, financial planning, and cost control initiatives.

  • Ensure efficient utilization of clinical resources and infrastructure.

  • Support data-driven decision-making to improve operational and financial outcomes.

6. Clinical Practice & Representation


  • Maintain active clinical practice within area of specialization.

  • Represent the hospital in clinical, regulatory, and stakeholder engagements.

  • Serve as a key interface between clinical teams, executive management, and external partners.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Qualifications & Experience

Educational & Professional Requirements


  • MBBS or MBChB degree from a recognized institution.

  • Fellowship qualification (FWACS, FWACP, or equivalent).

  • Valid Annual Practicing Licence with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

Experience


  • Minimum of 7 years post-fellowship clinical experience.

  • At least 3 years in a senior clinical leadership or hospital administrative role.

  • Proven experience in clinical governance, quality improvement, and patient safety.

  • Experience in budgeting, financial management, and resource planning.

  • Prior experience in the private healthcare sector is required.
