Job Description

The Clinical Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, leadership, and operational excellence of clinical and surgical services, with a particular focus on implant and surgical workflows.

The role ensures that all clinical sessions run efficiently, safely, and in line with best practice, while supporting clinicians, nursing staff, and treatment coordinators to deliver an exceptional patient experience.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical & Surgical Coordination

Coordinate daily and weekly clinical and surgical schedules, including implant and specialist sessions.
Ensure surgeries are fully prepared, staffed, and equipped prior to commencement
Act as the central point of coordination between surgeons, dentists, nursing staff, and treatment coordinators
Anticipate clinical requirements and proactively resolve workflow issues


2. Chairside & Surgical Support

Provide advanced chairside assistance during implant, surgical, and complex procedures
Prepare and maintain surgical fields in line with infection prevention and control standards
Assist with patient preparation, monitoring, and immediate post-operative care
Support clinicians with complex procedures as required
3. Leadership & Team Support

Provide day-to-day guidance and support to dental assistants and surgical staff
Assist with onboarding, training, and competency development of clinical team members
Role-model best practice clinical behaviour, professionalism, and patient care
Escalate clinical or staffing issues appropriately to management
4. Infection Control, Compliance & Quality

Ensure compliance with infection control, sterilisation, and regulatory requirements
Oversee sterilisation processes, instrument flow, and tracking
Maintain clinical protocols, SOPs, and surgical checklists
Support audits and continuous improvement initiatives
5. Stock, Equipment & Environment

Manage surgical instruments, implant kits, consumables, and clinical stock
Coordinate equipment servicing, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Ensure treatment rooms and theatres are consistently surgery-ready
Monitor stock levels and coordinate ordering within budget parameters
6. Patient Experience & Safety

Support patients throughout their surgical journey with professionalism and empathy
Reinforce post-operative care instructions and ensure patient understanding
Identify and escalate any clinical or patient safety concerns promptly
Contribute to a calm, supportive, and patient-centred clinical environment

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential

Certificate III or IV in Dental Assisting (or equivalent)
Significant experience assisting in surgical and implant dentistry
Strong understanding of infection control and sterilisation standards
Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex clinical workflows
Excellent communication and organisational skills
Desirable

Experience in implant-only or high-surgical-volume clinics
Leadership or senior dental assistant experience
Radiography qualification
Experience with clinical SOPs, audits, or accreditation processes
