Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences at Chapman University invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor with expertise in child language development, autism, and/or school-age language and literacy, for its Master of Science program in Communication Sciences and Disorders, at the rank of Non-Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2027.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is located on the Rinker Health Science campus in Irvine, CA. This campus is designed to foster an inter-professional educational environment and to use cutting edge technology in teaching and practice. The campus features state of the art facilities, including a human cadaver anatomy laboratory, advanced learning center with innovative technology, Grand Rounds auditorium with 3D projection capabilities, multi-sized classrooms, a medical library, and collaborative work centers. The campus is home to several accredited graduate health science professional programs, including Doctor of Physical Therapy, Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Master of Science Physician Assistant Studies, and Doctor of Pharmacy. The Rinker campus is strategically located near healthcare institutions, medical device manufacturers, and biopharmaceutical companies.

The CSD department is seeking a colleague who is experienced, dynamic, collaborative, and an effective instructor; one who will provide our students with state-of-the-art academic and practice-based clinical knowledge, and build upon the currently existing network in the community, schools, private practices, and hospital settings. As a Master of Science graduate degree program, the CSD department is accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA) and the Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC). The CSD department is associated with numerous school districts, private practices, and medical centers that provide services to individuals with communication disorders across the lifespan. Responsibilities

• Teach courses in child language development, autism, school-age language and literacy and/or clinical-practicum. Depending on expertise and interest, there is an opportunity to teach Capstone course, for which students complete a research project in their graduating year.
• Provide regular service expected from a full-time faculty member.

Qualifications

Required

• Master of Sciences or Master of Arts graduate degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Science (or the equivalent in Speech-Language Pathology/Communication Sciences and Disorders) with demonstrated excellence in clinical education. Graduate of an accredited communication sciences and disorders professional program.
• Clinical Certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist, by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
• Licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of California.
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical teaching, clinical coordination and/or clinical supervision.
• Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and clinical mentoring skills.
• Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers, especially with colleagues involved with clinical education.
• Current knowledge and skill in the use of information and computer technology (e.g., word processing, e-mail, database, web-based applications) or proven ability to learn these skills.
• Able to work with students with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
• Effective oral and written communication skills.

Desired

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a certified Speech-Language Pathologist.
• Prior clinical teaching experiences in a CSD academic program and/or administrative experience in clinical practice.
• Multicultural clinical experience and ability to teach cultural awareness.
• Doctorate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a broadly related field.

Successful completion of a background check is required for the final candidate. The salary range for this position is $100,000 - $116,000. Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. This position is contingent on final budget approval.
