Job Description

The Warner Graduate School of Education and Human Development at the University of Rochester invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor in Human Development. This position combines teaching, student mentorship, program development and improvement, and community-engaged partnership development. The term of employment will begin on July 1, 2027.

The successful candidate will play a central role in advancing the Warner School's mission of leveraging the power of education to transform lives and make the world more just and humane. The Warner School’s Human Development program prepares graduates to understand and address complex issues affecting human development across educational, healthcare, organizational, and community contexts. The program emphasizes interdisciplinary inquiry, applied learning, and community engagement to foster healthy development across the lifespan. The program offers PhD, EdD, and master’s degrees. The person occupying this position would have primary responsibility for the master’s degree and field experiences. The position is designed for an innovative educator and community-engaged professional who can connect graduate education in human development with meaningful experiences and partnerships across the Greater Rochester region and beyond.

We welcome applicants with doctorates in Human Development or related fields, including psychology, sociology, social work, or family studies. The applicant must have an educational and practical background that prepares them to teach graduate-level courses in human development and work with students and community organizations to design and facilitate varied opportunities for graduate students outside of the classroom.

The principal duties are associated with this position are to:

• Teach the equivalent of six graduate courses annually in the Human Development program.
• Contribute to curriculum development and continuous program improvement.
• Design and oversee community-based learning opportunities that integrate academic coursework with practice-based experiences aligned with students' professional interests and career aspirations.
• Collaborate with other faculty in creating community-based research experiences for students
• Support students in identifying professional goals, navigating career pathways, and connecting academic learning to community-based practice.
• Supervise independent studies, capstone projects, internships, and other applied learning experiences as appropriate.

Qualifications

Ideal candidates for this position will have qualifications and experiences that include:

• Doctorate in Human Development or related fields, earned prior to the position’s starting date.
• Experience and a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring graduate students
• Evidence of successful community-engaged work, partnership development, or applied professional practice.
• A demonstratedcommitment topreparingeffective,justice-orientedprofessionals and researchers. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and collaborative skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing and sustaining partnerships within the Greater Rochester region, the Finger Lakes region, or comparable community ecosystems, with demonstrated understanding of local educational, health, human service, nonprofit, and community organizations.
• Established professional networks within Rochester-area community agencies, school systems, healthcare organizations, foundations, or civic institutions.
• Experience coordinating internships, practica, community-engaged learning, or workforce development initiatives.
• Expertise in one or more areas aligned with Human Development program strengths, including youth development, family studies, developmental differences, community development, or community-engaged scholarship.
• Experience working across university-community boundaries to develop mutually beneficial partnerships.
