Job Description

Arizona State University, Edson College of Nursing & Health Innovation, seeks a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track, 12-month faculty member at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor with an administrative appointment as Assistant Program Director, Grace Center Operations. Under the administrative direction of the Program Director of Grace Center Operations, the Assistant Program Director of Grace Center Operations plays a key leadership role in managing and advancing simulation-based and experiential education within the Grace Center. This position collaborates with the Program Director and faculty to provide strategic oversight for the daily operations of the simulation and laboratory center, ensuring high-quality experiential learning opportunities for students and supporting the development and implementation of innovative simulation-based and experiential educational programs.

This is an in-person position based primarily on ASU's Downtown Phoenix campus. Regular on-site presence is required, and remote work is not available.

Essential Functions

Operational Leadership

  • Provide strategic oversight for the day-to-day operations of the Grace Center, ensuring the efficient delivery of simulation, laboratory, and experiential learning activities and maintaining a high standard of educational outcomes.
  • Oversee and collaborate with the Program Director, Grace Center and Simulation Operations on scheduling and use of simulation labs, equipment, and resources.
  • Provide oversight of the proper maintenance, functionality, and calibration of experiential, laboratory, and simulation equipment, including that used in clinical settings.
  • Assist with operational coordination of simulation and laboratory personnel deployed to multiple sites, including the Edson mobile simulation trailer serving rural regions of Arizona.
  • Provide operational leadership for Grace Center activities across the Mercado complex, the Health Futures Center (HFC), and mobile simulation environments.
  • Works with the leader of Grace Center Information Technology to implement technology and program maintenance of experiential learning sites.

Budget, Resource & Vendor Management

  • Assist the Program Director, Grace Center Operations to develop, manage, and monitor the Grace Center operational budget in collaboration with College leadership and Business Services.
  • Assist with procurement, contract management, and vendor relationships for simulation technology, equipment, services, and mobile simulation resources.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director, Grace Center Operations on procurement, inventory, and distribution planning for consumable learning supplies, including prelicensure skills bag materials.
  • Work with the Program Director, Grace Center Operations to implement full deployment of Elevate.

Program Development and Innovation

  • Stay current on emerging trends in simulation-based and experiential education and incorporate best practices and innovative technologies to enhance experiential learning.

Training and Developments

  • Participates in training and development of new technologies.
  • Provides mentorship and guidance to simulation staff.
  • Collaborates on the hiring of simulation staff.
  • Fosters a collaborative and innovative learning environment.
  • Collaborate with the Director, Grace Center and Simulation Operations on the professional development of simulation personnel through continued education and engagement in relevant industry conferences and certifications.

Quality Assurance and Assessment

  • Implement and maintain quality assurance processes to monitor the effectiveness of simulation and experiential learning experiences, using data to inform improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies, regulatory standards, and accreditation requirements related to simulation-based, laboratory, and experiential learning environments, maintaining adherence to educational and professional standards.
  • Assist with the preparation of operational documentation and contribute to accreditation reviews, audits, and site visits.

Collaboration

  • Serve on the team between Edson Simulation and other departments, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance learning experiences.
  • Liaise with external partners, including healthcare organizations and simulation technology vendors, to maintain and expand partnerships.
  • Represent the simulation center in institutional committees and meetings, contributing to the strategic direction and continuous improvement of experiential learning initiatives with other center leaders.

Faculty Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates current knowledge in the field and sustained effectiveness in teaching.
  • Teach in a variety of environments, which may include classroom, clinical, laboratory, experiential, simulation, distance, or online.
  • Teach on multiple campus sites as needed.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates innovative teaching methods.
  • Engage in scholarly activities related to nursing practice, education, or health care innovation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on research projects, presentations, or publications.
  • Support student scholarly inquiry in alignment with program requirements.
  • Incorporates scholarly and creative activities into clinical practice and teaching.
  • Participates in professional service through membership on elected, appointed, and voluntary committees in the college, university, community, and professional organizations that contribute to the Edson College of Nursing & Healthcare Innovation, the individual professional, and to higher education.
  • Participates in appointed and voluntary activities that contribute to the college, university, and community.
  • Participates in faculty governance of the College and University.
  • Participates in the strategic plan of the Edson College of Nursing and Health Innovation.
  • May provide supplemental coverage for absences in simulation and experiential courses, as needed, based on availability and operational priorities.

Other Duties

  • Regular activities require ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
  • Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze and report data.
  • Deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Initiate confidential correspondence on behalf of the Grace Center.
  • Conduct interviews over the phone or in person.
  • Supervise staff and/or student workers.
  • Work both independently and within a complex structured team.
  • Able to exercise judgment within generally defined practices & policies to determine appropriate action.
  • Use simulation scheduling software, learning management systems, audiovisual systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Use an ASU or personal vehicle to travel to different campuses or rural locations.

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse.
  • Required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Frequent physical demands may include stooping, bending, crawling under/around objects, reaching, lifting, and pushing objects of varying weights up to 50 pounds (medium).
  • Use lab equipment as applicable.
  • May be required to perform tasks in the field within and/or across University campuses.
  • Will be required to travel (for events, between campuses).
  • Position may involve shared offices/space.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Hold an earned graduate degree from a regionally accredited institution by the time of the appointment.
  • Holds an active and unencumbered Arizona or multi-state license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Arizona
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical/professional experience.
  • Clinical experience or teaching experience within the past 3 years.

Desired Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree in Nursing; OR, Health Education; OR, Leadership; OR, Biomedical Informatics; OR related field.
  • Evidence of graduate education in Nursing; OR, Health Education; OR, Leadership; OR, related field.
  • Experience in strategic planning and program development in an academic healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge of interprofessional education (IPE) and integrating IPE into simulation-based programs.
  • Evidence of healthcare simulation certification: Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS); OR, Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE); OR, eligible to obtain within two years of hire.
  • Expertise in simulation-based and experiential education, particularly in nursing and healthcare settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of simulation equipment, manikins, and related technologies.
  • Strong skills in educational technology integration.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and project management abilities.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and disciplines.
  • Understanding of budgeting, resource allocation, and operational management in an academic or healthcare setting.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
  • Attend and fully participate in the Supervisor Development Program (in-person) within two years of hire.
  • Prior experience teaching in simulation or experiential learning settings.
