We are seeking a full-time Clinical Assistant for our Spine location. The schedule for this role is Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Travel is required but will be kept within close proximity to your home location . This role also includes participation in our night clinic rotation approximately once every 6–7 weeks, with hours from 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM.

The Clinical Assistantis responsible forproviding and coordinating orthopedic patient care which includes performing routine office procedures and testing,participatingin patient teaching, communicating effectively with others, and partnering with the physician/mid-level provider in the delivery of patient care

Essential Functions:

  • Updating clinical notes in electronic medical systems

  • Completing phone triage

  • Casting and bracing

  • Performing routine office procedures

  • Providing patient education

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of EMR (Epic)

  • Ability to triage patient telephone calls. Gather pertinent facts; be asaccurateand concise as possible to assess patient health status and act asliaisonbetween patient and provider.

  • Ability toclearly and effectively educate patients, families and staffregardingthe full scope of patient care needs related to the care of patients with orthopedic problems.

  • Communicate effectively and clearlyRespond well to questions with patients, physicians/ mid-levelprovidersand co-workers

Qualifications:

  • Graduateofan accredited program for medical assistants, athletic training,ornursingOr Experience plus certification.

  • Certification isrequired

  • CMA/RMA must be registered/certified through one of the following national organizations: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), NationalHealthCareerAssociation (NHA), American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), or American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)

  • EMTs will need Emergency Medical Technician certificationNational Certification is accepted, following guidelines set forth by the Nationalboardthat State certification isrequiredupon recertification.

  • ATCs will need to be board certified as Athletic Trainer

  • New graduates are welcome

  • Travel to other OC locations may berequired

A Typical Day:

A typical day for the clinical assistant involves collaborating with and providing clinical and administrative support to the healthcare practitioner to ensure the delivery of high quality, compassionate patient care.The clinical assistant greets patients as they escort them to the exam room.They obtain and document past medical/surgical histories, vitals, patientmedicationsand allergies in the EHR system (EPIC). This roleassiststhe practitioner with patient examinations, treatments, and in-office procedures, in addition to cleaning and sterilizing rooms and equipment after each encounter. Some day-to-day tasks include suture/staple removal,assistingwith casting/bracing, andassistingwith injections. A pivotal job function for our clinical assistants is to educate patients through booklets/instruction sheets prior to minor proceduresin accordance withphysician instruction. This position will also orchestrate administrative duties which may include ordering supplies, stocking rooms, responding to patient messages, prescription refill requests, filing documents, and monitoring work queues in the EHR system.
