The Continuing Care Homes Branch is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Clinical Advisor to support the transformation of Alberta's continuing care system.

This position plays a critical role in advancing the mandate of the Continuing Care Division through the development of strategic policy, legislation, standards, and initiatives that improve the quality and sustainability of continuing care services across the province.

Role Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, System Improvement, the Clinical Advisor provides clinical leadership, strategic advice, policy analysis, and project management expertise to support priority government commitments and strategic transformation initiatives within continuing care.

The job responsibilities include:

• Provide clinical expertise and strategic advice to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of continuing care policies, programs, legislation, and standards.
• Research and analyze emerging issues, trends, risks, and best practices to develop evidence-based policy recommendations and strategic solutions.
• Lead complex, multi-stakeholder projects that advance continuing care transformation and support government priorities.
• Monitor and evaluate policy effectiveness, clinical outcomes, and quality indicators, recommending improvements to enhance care quality and system performance.
• Build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including healthcare providers, regulators, professional associations, and government partners.
• Represent the branch on committees, working groups, and consultation activities, translating stakeholder feedback into policy and program recommendations.
• Prepare briefing materials, reports, correspondence, presentations, and strategic documents to support decision-making and issues management.
• Provide timely advice on current and emerging continuing care issues, risks, and opportunities while supporting informed decision-making across the Ministry.

Qualifications

Minimum Recruitment Standards

Degree related to nursing, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, health, policy, public administration, or a related field and four (4) years of related experience. Must be a regulated member of the appropriate college if required by the Health Professions Act.

Equivalency: Diploma related to the position assignment and six (6) years of related experience. Master’s degree related to the position assignment and three (3) years of related experience.

The following experience is required:

• Knowledge of Alberta's health and social care systems, continuing care services, and relevant legislation, standards, and policies.
• Knowledge of Alberta's continuing care partners, including Alberta Health, Assisted Living Alberta, Alberta Health Services, and contracted service providers.
• Strong project management, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing briefings and reports for senior leaders.
• Experience building collaborative relationships with stakeholders, service providers, regulatory bodies, and community partners.

The following experience is considered as assets:

• Experience in facility-based continuing care, designated supportive living, or long-term care settings.
• Experience interpreting and applying continuing care legislation, standards, and policy requirements.
• Experience leading cross-functional projects, committees, or stakeholder engagement initiatives.
• Clinical experience with a strong focus on quality care, client-centred care, and quality of life outcomes.
• Experience in policy analysis, research, and developing recommendations to support program and policy initiatives.

Notes

Hours of work are 08:15 AM to 04:30 PM, Monday to Friday. This is a full-time permanent position, working 36.25 hours per week.

Location: ATB Place North, 10025 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta, T5J 1S6.
