The Lead Medical Assistant will provide support in clinical operations. Support medical providers in delivering care for patients enrolled in pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) services and in delivering primary care and HIV specialty care for patients living with HIV. The Lead Medical Assistant will serve as a team lead/Supervisor for other Medical Assistants at the clinic site. The Lead Medical Assistant reports directly to the Clinic Nurse Manager, Clinic Site Coordinator and ultimately the Director of Clinical Care.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare and follow-up on referrals as ordered by medical providers
- Oversees daily activities and provide administrative supervision of other Certified Medical Assistants
- Provide patient education within scope of practice
- Document in the electronic medical record
- Authorize medication refills as directed within protocol agreements
- Return phone calls within 24 business hours
- Perform administrative duties related to patient care as directed
- Abide by all state and agency policies regarding confidentiality of patient information
- Responsible for general clinic housekeeping, disinfection of exam rooms and other treatment areas as necessary, stocking clinic exam and supply rooms
- Conduct phone triage and schedule patients as necessary
- Return phone calls within 24 hours
- Conduct patient interviews including history, complaints, and current medications
- Prepare patients for examinations, and assist the physician, NP or PA during examinations
- Provides evidence-based health care coordination and increased communication between patients and healthcare providers as defined by The Patient – Centered Medical Home (PCMH).
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Certified as a Medical Assistant, preference for strong phlebotomy skills
- Self-starter with the ability to multi-task
- Electronic Medical Record system knowledge preferred
- Possess excellent communication skills (writing, spelling, listening and speaking)
- Cooperates as a team member
- Possesses problem solving and decision-making abilities
- Utilizes good time management techniques
- Follows through to completion of assigned tasks
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet database and presentation software
- Abides by all policies and procedures concerning personnel including conflict of interest policy
Minimum Qualifications
- Certified Medical Assistant or Medical Assistant with Associate Degree or higher in the medical field with at least 2-3 years of experience in clinical setting.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred, but not required
TRAVEL REQUIREMENT OR SPECIAL CONSIDERATION: Local travel between Positive Impact Health Centers in Decatur, Duluth, and Marietta, and to other community agencies

- Local travel between Positive Impact Health Centers, Inc. sites and to and from community agencies will be required at times.
- Occasional travel to events for training as needed. Occasional evening and weekend work are required and working greater than 40 hours per week may be required.
