Job Description

Scheduling patient appointments, maintaining accurate records and data and completes follow up on referrals. Enters insurance benefits, demographics and precertification/authorizations information into the patient electronic medical record.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associates degree in related field preferred

Minimum Work Experience

  • One year experience in a related field is preferred
  • knowledge of medical terminology required

Required Skills

  • Ability to proficiently read, write, and communicate effectively
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with customers and providers
  • Project a professional demeanor and excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as faxes, phone,s and copiers
  • Be familiar with medical terminology

Essential Functions

  • Maintains documentation that is detailed, clearly stated, objective and accurate.
  • Maintain ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals to promote team awareness and ensure patient safety.
  • Provide appropriate clinical information to specialist.
  • Assemble information concerning patient's clinical background and referral needs.
  • Demonstrates the ability to investigate and resolve any discrepancy in the referral process.
  • Consistently updates insurance and contact information so that the patients have the correct information on file.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills with patients and other health care professionals.
  • Adheres to insurance rules/regulations and patient confidentiality laws. Able to work independently on assigned duties with little or no supervision. Demonstrates basic knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of hospital EMR system.
  • Review details and expectations about the referral with patients.
  • Routinely completes follow-up on referrals as required.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned.
