Position Summary
The Assistant Clinical Manager position is designed to function as a working clinical lead who supports providers and staff on the clinic floor, assists with staffing coordination, and helps maintain operational readiness through proactive problem solving and supply management. Our Assistant Clinical Managers do not have formal oversight of performance management or disciplinary action.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Supports the day-to-day clinical operations of the clinic by providing hands-on clinical leadership, staff support, and operational oversight to ensure efficient clinic flow and high-quality patient experience.
- Monitor patient flow throughout the clinic and testing areas, identify bottlenecks, and work collaboratively with clinical staff.
- Assists providers with minor ophthalmic imaging procedures and ensures patient care is documented accurately and timely in the designated EMR.
- Serves as a visible, on-site support resource for clinical and front desk staff, helping troubleshoot workflow issues, answer operational questions, and reinforce clinic protocols and standards
- Identify staffing gaps, supports call-outs and coverage needs, and communicates scheduling concerns to the Clinic Manager.
- Ensure exam rooms, testing areas, and shared clinical spaces remain stocked, organized, and ready for daily operations.
- Communicates operational issues, staffing concerns, and workflow challenges to the Clinic Manager in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience Requirements
- Required three years of working in an ophthalmology/optical clinic.
- Prior supervisor experience within an ophthalmology/optical clinic is preferred.
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Active Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification or higher required.
- Some College preferred.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
