Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. The position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

Do you thrive in networking with other agencies to obtain necessary information? Are you able to seamlessly switch between tasks and prioritize multiple responsibilities on the fly, all while staying organized and efficient in a fast-paced environment? If so, you are just the candidate we are looking for to join the defense team at the Office of the Legal Defender!

As our Client Services Assistant, you will spend your work day collaborating with capital defense teams and gathering evidence and other documents from various agencies for client case files in order to assist capital teams with saving our clients’ lives.

We Require

  • Two years of experience performing office, administrative, and clerical duties
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Post-secondary education may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis

Other Requirements

  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire

We Also Value

  • Experience and/or education in bio-psychosocial, psycho-educational, emotional, and physical trauma
  • Associate’s degree or higher in Social Sciences
  • Experience using Excel and Adobe PDF
  • Indigent criminal defense experience
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills

Job Contributions

  • Collects historical client information and documentation by utilizing a variety of electronic systems
  • Compiles, organizes, and maintains files that include evidence and other documentation relating to the client's life history and background, including family background, prior personal relationships, and educational, medical, employment, and criminal history
  • Collaborates with local law enforcement agencies, medical professionals, governmental agencies, social service agencies, and educational institutions to collect information
  • Utilizes Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook to input case information and collaborate with the capital defense team
  • Organizes client information and makes copies
  • Assists capital defense teams in case preparation

Working Conditions

  • Most work is done in an office setting. May require some fieldwork. It may also include some work outside normal work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday
  • Requires the ability to manage frequent exposure to traumatic subject matter, handle interruptions, time pressures, changing tasks, high volume of work, unscheduled tasks, work in a team environment, have public contact, and/or close physical proximity with others.
  • The job requires the ability to lift a minimum of 10 pounds from the floor to the shoulder and from the shoulder to the waist
  • Must have the ability to carry a minimum of 5 pounds for a distance of 50 feet. May be required to push and/or pull a minimum of 30 pounds for a distance of a half-mile
  • This position is eligible for hybrid flexibility after a brief training period
